TyBro, even if you had a literal pussy magnet, you still couldn't attract women.

Something to think about.

>"The hipster moment did not produce artists, but tattoo artists. It did not yield a great literature, but it made good use of fonts."

It's funny because it's true.

Hipsters as a whole are just untalented trust fund babies/spoiled white kids, and they're all just sheep really. I'm not surprised that hipsters don't have the originality and creativity to make something that matters, because being unoriginal is a huge part of being a hipster.

Hell, the best hipster writer is Tao Lin, and he's nothing more than a self-promoting joke.

If you think that you can make generalizations about writing, than you don't know shit about writing.

No, we don't need to have a Q&A. I'm fine with people thinking whatever it is that they are thinking. I just don't like when people think whatever it is they're thinking without actually knowing what the fuck they're talking about.

I've heard quite a few people call Infinite Jest pretentious, because it has footnotes or uses big words or something, without having read the book.

Shit makes me a mad bro.

I guess Infinite Jest, though the only people who really call it pretentious are lazy hipsters who haven't actually read the book.

I don't know, at least Paris Hilton has sex tapes and such.

Tao Lin hasn't done anything that's even remotely entertaining.

It's one of those books where the stuff that's not on the page is what makes it good. You'll like it if you're a pretty sharp guy.

I think the book just takes a total fucking nosedive once that little bitch-boy John enters the story, though I think that everything prior to that point is solid.

For me, it really depends on the book.

If it's a shitty book, I'll put the book down when I'm done. Then maybe I'll watch some TV, do some homework, pick my next book to read, go play some tennis, maybe write, whatever.

If I'm reading a book that I really like I actually start to feel a little depressed towards the end, because to me it feels like I'm about to lose a good friend.

I wouldn't even call him a poet.

Bukowski is to poetry as kindergarten fingerpainting is to illustrated art.

Let's talk getting your work shat on by unseen judgmental phantoms. Like, what you're trying to get published, how often you've been rejected, how it makes you feel, what it felt like to finally get published (if you have), etc.

I've been trying to get my short stories published for the past few months, since about March. It's certainly unrealistic for me to think that I should've been published by now, but still. I've sent out three stories, and so far they've resulted in nothing but rejections, all of which are form letters. There are also some journals that have yet to respond, but I am sure that those will turn into rejections soon enough. Though there was one form letter that was friendlier (our readers responded positively to your work, but we can't place it in our journal, et cetera), though that wasn't much of a consolation.

I also entered a contest recently, and I believe that my piece made a deep run, but it got ultimately got squished. The winner is some poet, and I found a piece of that writer's poetry online, and it's not . . . . that good. I can't help but feel that whatever won that contest is inferior to what I wrote.

Though, obviously, the publishing game is based on a whole lot of subjectivity, but that's the most frustrating part of it. You send out stuff, and you feel it's good, but what you think about what you've written doesn't amount to shit. The fact that you have absolutely no control over the process whatsoever drives me up the wall.

>Last book I read.
Infinite Jest. Finally finished it after a few (grueling (but very enjoyable)) months. I honestly wish that it were 500 pages longer, or that there were a 1500 page sequel.

>Reading next.
American Psycho, because after reading Infinite Jest, well, I'm really looking to ease into a book that doesn't use big words, and so far the biggest words are 'Armani' and 'Toshiba.'
