Infinite Jest is unironically a modern classic.

If I could guess, probably because I became more solitary and look less approachable any time I'm out in the world reading

I actually got laid far more often before I started reading. If anything, there's been a significant decrease in my sexual activity since I started reading a lot.

Look at the shoddy binding on that fucking book, holy shit. That is nauseating. Those responsible for the "binding" of that book should be drawn and quartered.

Infinite Jest had a lot of very funny parts in my opinion, like laugh-out-loud funny. Nabokov usually gets a few laughs out of me. The only other one I can think of is the Master & Margarita.

Thank you for the thought-out reply anon, I appreciate it truly. I'll check out demons as soon as I can find it at my bookstore. I've been interested in daoism for a long time now but have never really "taken the leap" into it, might try that sometime soon. It's not like there's much else going on nowadays, so it'd probably be a good time for it.

I have an intense love and simultaneous disdain for humanity. I think I love our beauty and potential for growth and discovery, but rage at our tendency to throw it all away for such trivial bullshit. Can never seem to make up my mind. What's my painting

I have a therapist, and I feel like I have no problems opening up to people close to me. I don't know what's holding me back. But more importantly, I asked for book recs

I sleep at 10, wake up at 6:30 most days. I eat my fair share of junk food but not too much, I work out a couple days a week, etc. Healthy weight, job relationship. I have hobbies, I have creative outlets.

Sometimes I just really don't see the point guys. I'm trying my best to make good use of my time but I feel so dissatisfied and unmotivated a lot of the time. What are some good books to get me out of this funk?
>inb4 the Bible
I swear I'm so tired of the fucking Bible shills on this board.

Anything Murakami - beer or cheap scotch
Anything Hemingway - aged rum
Moby Dick - bitter tea
Fanged Noumena - ayahuasca
Bronze Age Mindset - bleach

This is not fucking lit. Bible posters need to fuck off, a thread died just so you could ask strangers on a Burmese camera repair forum to ask your false god to help you. Why is this allowed to continue

I've also wondered this. Finished Portrait recently and loved certain elements of it but didn't love the book as a whole. I plan on reading Dubliners soon. But if neither of them really grab me, how all I supposed to be motivated to tackle Ulysses? I know it's supposed to be his opus, but I just haven't seen yet what makes him so special. Will I only find that in Ulysses? Is everything else just preparation?

Great book. It's really a shame so many pseuds get so hot and bothered over it, it's been given a bad reputation by many of the same groups of people that probably, in part, drove David to suicide. Empty people.
