I'm not mean. Rothfuss writes like a dipshit. He's basically the neckbeard version of Stephanie Meyer. His prose is flawed and plays out like a boring as fuck manga arc-project.

All his characters, locations and overall story can't hold up without Kvothe being there. And his whole 'I fuck like a beast' arc was grating as fuck. Then his power-up arc with the Adem.

Also shit. Elodin may be the only good character, but there's nothing there besides 'Oh, he's wacky.'

Needs more context, given the whole phrase is pretty off-kilter.

Give us the full sentence? You may need to just reword it.

Don't listen to /lit/ in any regard, OP. Especially for opinions on anything. If it's not pretentious hipster philosophical kafka-esque watered down tripe then it's not good.

Just write. Write a short story version of each. 2000-3000 words focusing on potential characters, blah blah blah. Which flows the best? Which one flounders?

'Dungeons and Dragons with dick jokes. Lord of the Rings with lesbian gnomes. Conan the Barbarian with venereal disease.'

I will give you five dollars RIGHT NOW to never write this story and headbutt a metal spike.

Wrong, idiotic, bad taste in books, probably reads kafka like it's a holy scripture, overall has the wrong opinions and I hate him/her/it for it.

Hands down one of the best. His books are basically a holy bible to anyone who creates a robot story.

And look at those friggin' mutton chops. What a man..

Thought he was only going up to 20 and then putting out a final 3 trilogy that's supposed to be his end all be all?

I've read 3 so far. Consider Phlebas is by far my favorite.

I couldn't stomach Player of Games, it was awful. Couldn't even finish.

I'm reading Use of Weapons now.

I like it but it flounders at times. After reading a few of Gaiman's books i'm getting a bad feeling that he's unable to write characters well. I enjoyed Shadow, but he was just... there. You didn't pull any emotion from him, any real care for the world around him or his wife or... anything.

Especially after reading Anansi Boys, which was just fucking painful as hell. Every character poorly written... god damn.

Could've been better. I get why he stuck to pre-established gods though. They only had character because they already existed for a kerjillion years.

Pop off the back with a pocket knife. It's easy to get off, harder to get back on proper. Buy a new one from bn.com and you'll be fine.

Otherwise fuck yourself with a rake for neglecting such a wonderful and beautiful device.

You're a liar, a whore and a charlatan.

No one liked Wise Man's Fear save for mentally addled children.

But ignoring your thinly veiled Rothfuss debate thread...

This guy is constantly making the same thread. Rothfuss isn't anything special and his world building, storytelling and character creation is sub-par at best.

He makes everything to benefit Kvothe and not actually stand by itself and even if it's a first person narrative 'story time' style book, you still need characters who stand on their own and a world that stands on it's own.

That and the primary drive of the character is finding something that's barely mentioned in passing half the time. It's convoluted into a fanfiction.

And Denna is FUCKING AWFUL.

Harry Dresden. He's miserable and basically a broken man, but he guns through all this pain, suffering and madness and tries to salvage something.

He makes the tough choices and deals with it. There's a line that just rattles me from one of the books. I forget it verbatim but in the first book he was able to make a manifestation of light and used it again a vampiric psychopath and then later on when they're facing the vampires agains omeone asks him why he doesn't do it again and he basically goes

"To manifest light like that you have to be happy."

and I seriously went 'Oh...' with the uncomfortable secondary characters.

I'll consider a contract if you write me a 6 sentence story about my fantastic exploits as a badger-themed superhero.

It has to draw a tear and then you're in.

I agree. With how short Alloy of Law was, he really streamlined the process of characterization, developing a great world and a new system that combines the best parts of the old one. Hands down, Wax, Marasi and Wayne are some of my favorite characters in any fantasy fiction.
