I've just come from the reading sofa to look at a new camera and I saw this thread. Im about 1/4 the way through Hero of Ages.

The Final Empire does make a good stand alone. I'm beginning to hope they don't succeed and the world ends for humans leaving Kandra and Koloss so they regret over throwing the Lord ruler.

I'm loving the Spook and TenSoon chapters...

I'm off to read another couple of chapters. brb.

Jon is dead. Accept it. In the end he deserved it. He was going against everything he swore. Saving the Wildlings was a good idea. But Hardhome was a terrible idea. He deserved to despite it looking good for them during the winter. I will say it is looking good for him being resurrected. If not he was a warg so he lives on in ghost till he finds a host. If he can find one in time, before he becomes more beast than human.
