Picture reminded me of Angels Egg almost immediately, as a matter of fact I even briefly wondered if it was angels egg. It's a film as opposed to a book, and better described as empty as opposed to post-apocalyptic, but it was what came to mind.

'fraid not, they're all pretty generic... just try and get something within ~5 years of 2010 and you'll be in great shape.

Derp. He had many ideas, but plenty of them were red herrings. I would suggest you simply buy an up-to-date textbook, otherwise you'll be wasting your time- unable to distern what modern practice actually uses and what has since discarded

In a bottom line sense, prehaps. But it obviously weighs in on his thinking otherwise he wouldn't mention it, which he clearly does in the writing. Virtue may be pragmatic, but it is also virtue and it is advised therefore in this work of writing he cares.

An interesting question. I suppose only Machiavelli can give us an answer

Trolls trolling trolls trolling trolls. Good Job OP

I think you're going to extremes here with interpretation. A ruler with populance who loves the ruler is going to support the ruler. So from a pragmatic perspective it is worthwhile to have some level of virtue. Of course, this is mostly for show- personal virtue is of no concern. the morals of the statesman matters not as long as the individual is able to maintain rule through violence. To this end fear and repression are effective tools of the state. However, it is foolish to think he does not believe virtue to appease to populance as a fine bonus.

Also, you should consider that from a patriotic standpoint he very much wants a powerful leader to represent a unified Italy. The most powerful would have some level of virtue presumably

One of the few things I've ever been recommended from /lit/ that I'm happy to have bothered with. Funny it's a totally non-/lit/ related thing.

To be Honest... Stephen king is really the only horror novelist I'd suggest. Granted, he's a terrible hack right now- but the early novels were somewhat inspired and his mid-career novels were epic pageturners

I never was a fan of that one. It felt like the author was building up to this big conclusion, but then gave up on the story in the end and wrote in a deus ex machina. However, the algae Farming sequence where everyone is growing giant zits was rather lulzy

I've already complained a fair deal about gatsby. Major problem was I went in hyped up with expectations and found a pretty normal core romantic drama. Not terrible, but not as great as /lit/ makes it out to be either

King does some decent dystopia. I never found myself questioning the environment he created for the book. Probably because he was using the political situation to drive the plot as opposed to spewing ideological jargon, I suppose

Sprawl Trilogy is the classic cyberpunk series. However, I'd only really recommend Neuromancer out of that. Mirrorshades... and Snow Crash. Other than that I really can't recommend much.

In terms of Mixedmedia, Dreamweb is a decent Blade Runner/Neuromancer synth you can get online if you're interested. Snatcher is an almost direct rip of Blade Runner with cult following. Strange Days is a well-done Cyberpunkish film, and Ghost in the Shell/Blade Runner are the default cyberpunk film classics (although the question of if these are cyberpunk is always posed)

>Messiah, and God Emperor
I've always liked that one. God emperor is probably the better novel, but it still is one of my favourites. The Alia romance is Irritating, but otherwise the drama is enjoyable in terms of events and intrigue

The greatest books in the dune series are Messiah, and God Emperor. God Emperor is essentially a 2.0 of Messiah. Children of dune is the necessary shit required to unlock the utter win of God emperor.

However, if you did not enjoy messiah you will probably not enjoy God Emperor. Quit now

I don't know about recent statistics, but Friendly Fire kills were responsible for more kills than conflict with the enemy during the Gulf war. It’s hilarious to think that US military technology has reached the point where the major enemy is itself

(unless you already have done some research to begin with and aren't just asking us to do your homework, I've seen some decent threads come about as a result of that)
