Someone thinks that torturing an animal for medicine is okay, because this way they can create medicines. Someone doesn't care about medicine, they care more about fun, so they should be able to torture the animals for fun.

I'm not saying either is right or wrong, I'm saying if one is right, the other must also be right.

the least pretentious and most convincing would be something like sagan, he is humble, and makes you think for yourself. e.g.

This is absolute bullshit. Just because you care more about prolonging your life than having good make up it doesn't mean it's suddenly objectively moral to torture animals for medicine but not for cosmetics. Obviously I'd agree that prolonging your life is more important, but that's because it's a priority for me.

The point is, if you kill or torture an animal for any reason, then anyone else on the planet should be able to do exactly the same for any reason they believe is valid. If someone wants to torture a rat for fun, why shouldn't he be able to do if others can do it for medicine? He believes fun is more important the medicine, his choice.

I am fucking sick of people who think their beliefs are the only thing that matters.

Hmmm looks interesting although form the reviews it doesn't look like anything new to me. I know the problems religion (not really religion but the fear of going against it) have caused.

I just want some good non fictional books, haven't read many of those except for pop-maths/science ones.

Also I would like to ask what people made of the Eschaton game, that chapter was the most boring thing I've ever read in my life it probably took me a week because I couldn't bare more than a few pages at once.

Oh it was supposed to be surreal? I thought it was just exaggerate, e.g. everything was over the top, if there's say a tall character, then DFW would write about how he's 8 feet tall and needs 3 chairs to sit down.
