A common question asked in philosophy. You obviously have never thought for yourself, only watched TV.

Someone thinks that torturing an animal for medicine is okay, because this way they can create medicines. Someone doesn't care about medicine, they care more about fun, so they should be able to torture the animals for fun.

I'm not saying either is right or wrong, I'm saying if one is right, the other must also be right.

the least pretentious and most convincing would be something like sagan, he is humble, and makes you think for yourself. e.g.

sagan would say something like

>if the universe had to be created, and god was the creator, then how can god exist without being created. why not just remove god and say that the universe has always existed?

hitchens translations

>FUCKING PRICKS GOD DOESNT EXIST FUCK YOU ASSHOLES

>Animal testing for medicine is totally cool man but they shouldn't do that shit for cosmetics no need for that

This is absolute bullshit. Just because you care more about prolonging your life than having good make up it doesn't mean it's suddenly objectively moral to torture animals for medicine but not for cosmetics. Obviously I'd agree that prolonging your life is more important, but that's because it's a priority for me.

The point is, if you kill or torture an animal for any reason, then anyone else on the planet should be able to do exactly the same for any reason they believe is valid. If someone wants to torture a rat for fun, why shouldn't he be able to do if others can do it for medicine? He believes fun is more important the medicine, his choice.

I am fucking sick of people who think their beliefs are the only thing that matters.

Have you read it? What did you think?

Hmmm looks interesting although form the reviews it doesn't look like anything new to me. I know the problems religion (not really religion but the fear of going against it) have caused.

I just want some good non fictional books, haven't read many of those except for pop-maths/science ones.

ITT non fictional book that changed your life.

Pic related, I didn't just read it and think oh wow black people are dumb or something, it just got me out of my "all men are created equal" mindset, before it I just had personal observations which I dismissed myself and justified them with 'history' and 'culture' arguments.

You should just write it all by yourself, I'd read it because that's a good start (although change the 'goes along' bit). Do you write?

Also I would like to ask what people made of the Eschaton game, that chapter was the most boring thing I've ever read in my life it probably took me a week because I couldn't bare more than a few pages at once.

>> No.1034395 [View]

I discussed this book yesterday in a long ass thread so I don't feel like doing it but do read it, it's not difficult, just long.

Aight let's write a story /lit/, one sentence per post. I'll start.

>Stately, plump Buck Mulligan came from the stairhead, bearing a bowl of lather on which a mirror and a razor lay crossed.

Would have been an interesting graph, or a funny troll, but you had to ruin it.

>> No.1031895 [View]

Oh it was supposed to be surreal? I thought it was just exaggerate, e.g. everything was over the top, if there's say a tall character, then DFW would write about how he's 8 feet tall and needs 3 chairs to sit down. Or like how that addict was in a toilet for three days. Everything is like that, also a lot of urban myths...

Also I know he was influenced by Kafka, but I don't think page long sentences work well, maybe it's the English language, but I don't like them, especially when you have footnotes in them.

I hate you, seriously. First you tell me I hate it because it's popular, then I mention Amazon, which represents the average reader, not academics, and... what? I don't even know. All of my hate.

>> No.1031799 [View]

Also if you just go on Amazon you'll see it has more 1 star reviews than anything else. So it's not even an unpopular opinion.

I'm reading infinite jest at the moment, currently at a 20 page (plus 10 in footnotes) chapter about a retarded children's tennis game or something.

I'm really hating it, I wish it would move on with the plot.

You should go sit next to them and open your book. She might ask you what you're reading and one thing might lead to another etc. LOL JUST KIDDING nothing will happen.

I was on a train yesterday and saw this girl reading the Virgin Suicides and wearing a flowery dress. She was kinda cute.

HOW can it be vernacular if they are both pronounced the same? The reason people write "should of" and "would of" is because it sounds just like of.
