Mondaugen's Story was really good but honestly I most enjoyed the end with Profane and Pig in DC. Agree with you about Rachel being the best character. I didn't really like Fausto's Confession. It had good themes and I enjoyed the imagery but just the way it was told felt really off.

So at one point I saw here what I thought was a shitpost:

>The reason Melville goes on about whale biology is because back then people didn't even really know how whales looked like

After reading his account of the "battering ram" of the sperm whale and the differences between it and the head of the right whale, I'm beginning to wonder how accurate that statement actually was.

Can anyone weigh in on this?

I'm pretty sure wikipedia told me some people have argued it could be construed as one "post-humously" or whatever the literature equivalent of post-humously is.

They are long but the stories that will best replicate these paintings are probably The Shadow out of Time and At the Mountains of Madness. Ligotti creates the unsettling, dreamy atmosphere more than a direct imagery likeness.

>The Rum Diary and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas

The latter is OK but honestly his "auto-biographical", gonzo stuff is much better. I recommend the Great Shark Hunt and Kingdom of Fear especially. I have not read Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72 yet but I know a lot of people here would say it's his best work. If you can find it online, Screwjack is three short, increasingly fucked up short stories that most people haven't read. It's only like 90 pages total and can be read in an hour easily.

Very interesting man. There's also a video of him shooting guns with Conan O'Brien.

You edgy motherfucker. I had a friend like you. Bisexual meth/heroin user. No fucking clue where he is now. Last I knew he got nailed for "sales and attempted possesion". I have no idea how that is possible. I figure he attempted to sell fake drugs.

This. I work with some dude in his 40's who got turned onto Delillo and Pynchon and McCarthy in college. I lent him some stuff by McElroy and Borges and he gave me some John Barth and George Saunders. I know a couple of art girls who recognized GR on my shelf and had read Ulysses. The people who think the authors here are just "le memes" probably don't get out very much. McCarthy has movies and was featured in a fucking adult swim cartoon.

Same here, unless it's grown since I was in high school. I also read random excerpts from the 4 million word smash bros fanfiction. He narrates battles. As in X attacks Y. He also notes "It caused 37 points of damage!". This goes back and forth for a reasonable battle length. It's not a reasonable hit-point literally written out length.

I don't make threads about him so I'm just assuming those are the basic reasons
