Not everyone who expresses their atheism is an aggressive intellectual narcissist.

And Kundera is great but he's not my favourite.

I think that probability leans heavily toward Shakespeare actually existing, and just because there is not enough evidence to completely rule out the possibility that he did not write the plays doesn't mean that the assertion should be regarded as anything more than baseless speculation.

From a literary standpoint it's quite irrelevant anyway.

Some editions are censored at the request of Anne Frank's father.

After he died they published the whole thing.

I said it, but it's nothing really profound.

It's a common opinion among historical linguists.

But anon, don't you think it argued that the scriptures themselves actually carry the idea of religion, and the perceptions of those who read it and believe it are changed so radically that it's inevitable that it have such an effect on humanity, regardless of the quality of the prose. Same goes for Marx.

"The only truly objective comparison you can make to assess the quality of literature is it's influence on civilisation."

What about religious scriptures?

Perhaps the only reason why they have influenced civilisation (including literature) is because they were enforced so dogmatically by religion which kept the scriptures eternally popular.

Sure it should CONCLUDE with obscenity, but having roughly 5 atrocities per act can only be deliberate overkill.

Relative to Shakespeare's other stuff it's fucking awful.

The 'revenge tragedy' narrative never evolves, the prose itself is unimaginative and the relentless obscenities are just tasteless.
