Yea, its pointless for most people to be forced to read willys writing.

The only POINT to reading is for enjoyment or information. If you dont hang around the type of people that would appreciate W.S. references thrown into conversation, don't enjoy his work, and are not reading it for academic purposes, there is no point. There is no point to pretty much any literature.

"An autological word (also called homological word) is a word expressing a property which it also possesses itself (the word "short"

That =/= capable of self definition.

The only thing capable of definition AT ALL is a conscious being. The answer has to be a conscious being. Defining something DOES = the ability to categorize.

The dictionary doesnt define itself it merely contains its own definition. There is a difference

>> No.2393019 [View]

The only thing capable of defining itself is a human. We are given that power due to consciousness.

Something that is capable of self definition is conscious. The only inarguable example of a conscious being being a human being.

Either way thank god hes dead. Now if only the memory of this terrible author would vanish as well.

>> No.2393003 [View]

what do you mean capable of self definition?

Conscious?

A shitty author killed himself.

Good. Perhaps he will start a trend.
Lets move along.

Yep. If its a good class you're just going to be writing and your teacher/classmates are going to critique the writing. You might occasionally spend a class period doing something collective, like editing or critiquing a piece.

>He renewed the concept. he did not invent it. Invention is initial imagining of the idea.

Imagining is irrelevant without popularization.

the key to creativity is hiding your sources. he invented it.

Yes he did. He just didnt invent the words

He invented our modern conception of them and popularized them.

Its safe to say all of those concepts would be vastly different without tolkien's influence. He CREATED the modern fantasy genre

Magicians by grossman is fairly good.

A lot of people think its a harry potter / narnia knockoff.

It both is and isnt. Its an adult author taking these childrens concepts and re-using them in a very adult, fast paced, intelligent narrative. The second book is better btw

No. He has a pdh in aesthetics. I'm just a pissed off college freshman. All my docs have already been dropped on this board. No fucks were given.

Thats what pretty much any review of literature is faggot.

>you don't enjoy it - you hunt it down like a lion's head for your wall.

This is actually a really good line that kind of nails most of /lit/ on the head. They read a book, not because they enjoy the book itself, but just to say they've read it. The more difficult or obscure a book is the more they want to have it mounted on their wall. It doesnt matter to them if they honestly can't understand the message of the book, or any of the literary allusions. After all, the author is dead right? And with that eminently permissive pseudo philosophy, this board goes and argues about nothing

Its just 2 deep 4 u. Like finnegan's wake is for plebs.

Prove what I wrote above isnt the most insightful phrase to ever be written.

You're an idiot. 'Proof' doesnt exist in literature. Literature is the land of endless interpretations and semantic arguments

>> No.2302860 [View]

You are correct OP. /lit/ doesn't like literature. /lit/ likes feeling superior so they pretend to enjoy TERRIBLE books like gravities rainbow and finnegan's wake

>> No.2302858 [View]

There is no originality in literature. Deal with it. its all about how well an author re-uses ancient tropes.

also, OP, coincidence

>> No.2302854 [View]

There is no hard difference between poetry and prose.
