>mfw I saw someone in the last thread atheist vs. Christian circlejerk say that the Church preserved Plato's dialogues
Plato's dialogues were preserved in the Byzantine world, and studied by Muslim philosophers like Avicenna ("of the great commentary", in Dante's words). There was some influence through other Platonic philosophers on medieval Scholasticism, but never direct study or even knowledge of Plato's dialogues, aside from Timaeus. Those did not come to Western Europe until the 15th century, brought by Gemistus Pletho, a Constantinopolitan, who founded the Platonic Academy with Medici money, in which the dialogues were translated into Latin.

The lesson here is that even if you aren't going to think critically about your opinion and just pick a side and stick with it, don't embarrass yourself by standing on a high horse while you pull shit out of your ass that can be proven wrong by a few google searches.

This guy is right.

People in here need to read the dialogue Parmenides and more specifically the part about the problem of universals. Aristotle took his categories straight out of there, there is absolutely no doubt about this.

The main difference in their metaphysics lies in the emphasis Plato put on the ideal state of the forms, whereas Aristotle emphasized a correspondence of universals with the natural world.

It's not just about intelligence you cuck, it's about virtue, strength and determination.

Most """""""intellectuals"""""" are not only fucking stupid outside of whatever hyperspecific mumbo-jumbo they bought a diploma in, but also weakling faggot cucks that would be more at home chained as dogs grovelling in front of their masters than posturing as men.

I don't understand this part of book 7 of the republic, what did Socrates mean by this?

People are stupid and need to be ruled, holding animosity towards them is like being angry at a dog for pissing on the rug. It's a stupid animal and knows no better, therefore it must be disciplined.

A writer is someone who dedicates his life to living vicariously, constantly involved with representation rather than reality. It only makes sense they would enjoy the idea of someone fucking their object of desire more than fucking the object of desire themselves.

This is why art and artists should be banned.

Different Anon here.

>It's just that you cannot know to any meaningful level that how you are actually pronouncing would be the way that an authentic Athenian in that era would talk.
Except that is factually wrong. We have a pretty good idea of what Greek sounded like down to the tonic accent; this is more than we can say about most other dead languages, even some well studied ones like Latin.

Go check what we know about how Sumerian or Old Chinese or Egyptian were pronounced and you'll see the magnitude of difference there is in comparison to Ancient Greek. That it was written in an alphabet (the first one at that), already means the pronounciation will have some degree of accuracy, and if you take into account we're talking about a very well documented language, one that was taught as a prestige language across centuries, and is part of the Indo-European language family, which is THE most studied language family in the planet, you can't say what we can reconstruct of Ancient Greek pronounciation is meaningless.
