Whatever happened to the "The Alternate /lit/ Top 100"? Did it ever get made?
>>>/lit/thread/22925952

Alternatively, this thread is dedicated to books that are underrated on /lit/.

Have you ever wondered what the annual /lit/ Top 100 would look like without the same group of books every year? It's something I wonder about every year. So in opposition of ten top 100 charts made, I want to find out what it would look like. So I have created a blacklist of books which have made the chart for five years or more.

https://forms.gle/QHwpdL8wRFpup1xK7

Using the link, vote for your top ten favorite books excluding the books on the included blacklist. No sign-in is required. Each book listed must be a different title. Duplicate ballots will not be counted.

POLL: https://forms.gle/x44jyD3qXPhSiDVQ

Any ties from here on out will be sorted alphabetically.
Here's the unedited sheet. I removed duplicate novels from the same submissions and reformatted submissions in a local excel file. I'll post that with the final chart.

One of the best Sci-fi book ever written. Best book I've ever read! Why hasn't /lit/ talked about it often? It's great!

Best part in my opinion has to be the sentient stars chapter. Shit's insane.

welcome to the tie-breaker thread.

>what is this?
on december 12th and up until december 22nd, /lit/ nominated their favourite works of literature to compile a list of their top 100 books of all time for 2022.
submissions were reviewed and nominations were counted, with the list being put together in a spreadsheet (the first link).
the purpose of this thread is to definitively place the works which are tied in their placement on the top 100 list.

>how does this work?
in the multiple choice google form (the second link), you will find all of the works in this year's top 100 which are tied, categorised by the number of votes they received.
you must select your favourite work in each category.
the poll will close on december 26th.
after responses have been collected, the tied works will be sorted in the spreadsheet by their popularity in each category.
shortly after, an official chart of the top 100 list will be made and posted.

note: you will need to add the "dot com" domain after "tinyurl" and before the forward slash to use these links.

we're back, thank you for your patience.
i'm surprised i didn't have to create a second thread sooner.

>how does this work?
nominations must be submitted through the google form (the first link).
you can nominate up to five books, nominations must be written in the format of "Author - Title".
responses will be collected in the spreadsheet (the second link), which updates automatically.
submissions will close on december 22, with follow-up tiebreaker threads being created soon after if necessary.

>what are the rules?
you cannot nominate the same book twice in your submission, only your first nomination will be counted.
literature of all genres and types are allowed, however your nomination must be a legitimate book which has been published and can be read.
"complete works" collections (Plato Complete Works, The Complete Works of Shakespeare, etc.) will count as a vote for most nominated work by that author. in the event that an author's "complete works" collection has more votes than any individual work, the collection will appear on the chart instead.
nominations which break these rules will be omitted and will not be counted.

It's that time of the year again. Here are the proposed rules of this year:
- The choices should fall into the literary arena: book of fiction, book of poetry, or book of literary essays. Philosophy, science, politics, and other unfortunate non-fiction genres are not allowed and will be invalidated.
- You can choose up to 5 books but only one book per author. This is done to avoid overrepresentation (e.g. 3 Dostoyevsky novels in the top 25).
- Shakespeare's plays will count towards one book, The Complete Works (how they were originally published). Borges's collections (e.g. Ficciones, The Aleph, Labyrinths, etc) will count towards Collected Fictions (Borges' English releases were kind of botched and irregular). This also done to avoid atomization.
- The titles should be presented in English if they have been translated (e.g. The Divine Comedy rather than La divina commedia). This makes the vote counting easier because the titles are normalized and there's little variation.
- The responses should be in the form "[Book title] by [Author]" rather than "[Author]'s [Book title]"

Why does 4chan /lit/ focus so much on the Anglosphere and remain willingly ignorant of non-Anglo writers at a time when the majority of valuable literature is being produced in non-English-speaking countries?
