>You can't say grass is green, I once saw purple grass! You can't say grass is green, you haven't seen enough grass!
assess the invalidity of comparing the quality of literature with the color of grass.

>Pure comedy and pure tragedy
define comedy, define tragedy.

>nigga

>not hahasobsob stuff
tragicomedy? I'm sure you know what you mean with a term like 'hahasobsob stuff'

>Who else goes to the extremes of A Midsummer Night's Dream versus King Lear
see all the authors I mentioned here >>4553990, esp. Proust, Joyce, Cervantes. Setting aside your bardolatry and puerile Carlylian hero-worship, why do you think it matters that one author should write masterpieces in two distinct genres? Would MSND be less a masterpiece if it had been written by John Lyly and King Lear, by Thomas Kyd.

Not that guy, but:

How is this autistic? Montaigne wasn't even writing in old French (nor was Shakespeare writing in Old English). But if >>4497117 wants to practice his language skills he'd be better off with a more modern author anyways.

Cool, thanks.

I haven't read what he's said about Kant and this was a way for me to get you to tell me what he said about Kant.

Post-modern poetics can be broadly defined as literature predominantly concerned with questions of ontology as opposed to (the more modern) literature concerned with questions of epistemology.

One assumes that we should learn how to BE, the other, that we should learn how to KNOW.

But, like any lucid human being would know, both are not mutually exclusive. The further you push your epistemological questions, the more likely you are to find yourself in ontological territory, and vice versa. Pynchon's Crying of Lot 49 perfectly highlights this limbo. Oedipa is caught between multiple worlds, both of being and of knowing.

If you have read Joyce, you'd understand how he does something very similar, but of course, you haven't. We are still coming to terms with this transition towards ontology but we can never quite escape epistemology entirely and so The Crying of Lot 49 is not dated at all, if anything it's more relevant now than ever.

Would you care to post your own review-- not just your opinion?

What are we supposed to respond, when you say

>absolutely brilliant
>laced [...] with so much more than the 'average reader' might pick up on

It's painfully inane-- especially for an imageboard dedicated to the discussion of literature.

I stress the word discussion, because there is absolutely no intelligent discussion that will come from your post.

Please try again.
