On an unrelated note, I just saw Quentin posting on /b/. Don't worry, he was getting flamed there too.

I've read The Feast of the Goat, The War of the End of the World, The Way to Paradise, The Bad Girl, Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter,Conversation in the Cathedral, and The Green House (in order from best to worst, so you know my tastes). What should I read next? It has to be translated into English, since I can't speak or read (much) Spanish. I would prefer an epic to one of his slimmer and simplier books, but either is good.

The best part of 2666 is probably about page 790 - 850, which shows Archimboldi's rise as a writer. I'm reading that now. Such great parts to it.

I laughed pretty badly when I saw that on the New Year picture. And Ayn Rand talking about looters.

Why is this so good, but The Savage Detective so bad? Stuff like Amulet and LEOE are decent though. I want to get lots of his stuff, but can't afford the hardcovers.

Good Tier

The huge chapter about Dave Wallace
The other bits about Dave Wallace
The beautiful woman part
The kid's party chapter

Decent Tier

The dead guy chapter
The fapping chapter

Bad Tier

Everything else

It's a good book, but there's no-one to talk about it to. I enjoyed it, although the lack of plot was bad. About halfway through I realised nothing had HAPPENED yet, then two thirds of the way through I knew nothing was going to happen at all. Good ideas, prose and characters though.

The last 5 pages, where you expect some exciting revealing or good conclusion, are instead two siblings talking about their favourite ice creams.

I mean page count, not word count. Atlas Shrugged is extremely long though, yes. It read it (lol) in about 3 weeks.

I assume there's an upper limit, in terms of heaviness, or construction, or resource costs? I think the limit is about 1,500 pages, simply because that's the biggest book I've ever seen.

At first I was like:

1. Critics
2. Archimboldi
3. The murders
4. Amalfitano
5. Fate

Then I was like:
1. Archimboldi
2. Critics
3. Amalfitano
4. Fate
5. The murders

An awesome book, 8/10.

I've read the Muir translations of Castle, Trial, Amerika and Metamorphosis, and didn't like any of them. I don't understand why people like Kafka.

You don't like Kafka, then?

>> No.1963452 [View]

I've read several works by Kafka, from the terrible to the slightly bad. I wouldn't say he's written anything on par, although people think he's wonderful (lol).

I could understand what he was saying, but only just.

Also, why is 1Q84 translated into every language but English, before English? I thought English was a major world language or something.

>> No.1963335 [View]

Anyone want to comment on it? Commenting is nice.

The book looks great, also.

It's a Dutch review (in English) of 1Q84. First he spends about 10 minutes waffling on about the author's other books, then he flips through the pages of 1Q84 with random comments you can only just understand. I can't tell if this review is terrible or just weird.

So is Infinite Jest still /lit/'s favourite book, or what? It was 12 months ago, and 6 months ago. It's pretty much the fave book on every forum I've been to.

Seriously, it's not that amazing. The author's best works, which are very good, are Girl With Curious Hair and Oblivion: Stories.
