I think Garth Marenghi only worked because his show and he himself were a parody of another author. You might not find what you're looking for in your approach.

Good, not great. Has an episodic feel to it and keeps pretty basic. It seems like more time should pass for Kvothe since it implies he's an older guy telling the story but at the end of book 2 of 3 he's... 16? 17? Physically a year older?
