I fail to see any merit or purpose behind them.

You should have gone in the following order:
Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man
Dubliners (optional but recommended)
Ulysses
Finnegans Wake

>reading James Joyce's "Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man" at work on my break
>attractive enough young woman approaches and asks what I'm reading
>tell her
>she's never heard of it
>never heard of James Joyce
>says her favorite books are the Hunger Games trilogy and Harry Potter
>made light hearted comment about how I didn't much care for them
>change subject
>conversation follows
>go out for dinner that weekend
>have been dating for over a year
>she has since read many of the classics and renounced her love for the aforementioned books
It's that easy.

Luckily when they say it in the movie I can't hear it being misspelled.

I understand it well and fine, it just gets my goat any time I see it written (or abbreviated) or have to say it.

In Magician: Master, by Raymond E. Feist, I had that happen during the scene when Pug shits everywhere in the arena.
But you have to read the first one (Magician: Apprentice) first.

Actually five books, with two more coming.
The first one is A Game of Thrones. Whole series is called "A Song of Ice and Fire" (which I personally hate, because the correct way to phrase it would be Fire and Ice, but GRRM is just an asshole, I guess). Check tpb for the whole series.

>1. Do you think reading litterature is more productive than surfing the Internet/watching television?
It depends on what you watch/surf. If you're reading the news or something, instead of just on 4chan constantly, or watching a documentary or something educational and not, say, Family Guy, then it's give and take. I prefer to read than surfing the internet or watching television.
>2. Do you regreat surfing the Internet/watching television instead of reading?
Not particularly. I have enough self control that I can browse the Internet or watch television when I feel like it, and read when I feel like it. I spend as much time doing each activity as I like.

It's fun and fine. Interesting enough. I personally enjoy them, and if you like fantasy and don't read only to look intelligent, then go ahead.
Or don't.
But you probably will.

I once saw a book (or series) that was the Sherlock Holmes books, only from the POV of Moriatry.
I can't for the life of me remember the title or the author, which sucks, because I really want to read it.

Agree with the others, 1 is the worst. If you can just push through it, you'll be pleased you did.
I still can't get over the name "Whiskeyjack" though.

I enjoy the speed at which posts are responded to, and the inconsistency therein.
I also enjoy the artwork-image aspect mentioned in the OP.

Just keep reading classics and such.
Try some Hemingway and Fitzgerald, maybe some Dickens.
Faulkner.
If you're a real nigga from the streets, go for Joyce.

Also, that picture is a really poor choice for starting a thread. Unless you're a troll, then good on you.
There's also some errors in the text in the picture, but I feel like if I point them out I'll just be called autistic.

I wouldn't advise purchasing them, but go ahead and read them. They're entertaining enough, and I love Greek mythology so it was a neat rendition of that.
The characters aren't awful, the writing style isn't terrible, and it's a neat concept. It's entertaining.

I don't know what that means. "On the dole"?
I have a job and such. I don't create things and put them into the world, though.
So, I would say, yes, I am basically just a consumer.

I pay taxes and such things as that. Purchase things, help the economy, etc. etc.
