...DFW, Pynchon, Roberto Bolano, Mark Z Danielewski, or Tao Lin (lol)?

It's actually a decent enough book, but I keep stopping to read other stuff...seriously, I've read 10 - 15 books inbetween reading bits of that. I'm up to page 800 out of 1,200.

I don't like Pynchon much but this is alright. Anyone wanna discuss it?

Somerset is one of the better counties, but nothing special. I love Devon and Cornwall, with all the beaches in Summer and hot chicks.

And yeah, lots of writers live vicariously. So what? It's just another form of escapsm, like most people have. It's better than daytime tv.

I see. Well, very few people these days have broad Westcountry accents (lol @ them), and I myself have a slightly posh accent. Where are you from?

Probably Breakfast of Champions.

I wish his books were twice as long, with better developed ideas. He's a decent writer, but far from perfect.

Where do you live? I'm in Somerset, England.

I thought Infinite Jest was worth a 4/10, even though people have started religions around it.

No.

No, why? Because I post so much?

[ ] own one or more ironic t-shirts
[] have a kindle
[] have an ipad
[] read unpopular books for the cred
[] read popular books for irony
[] call authors pretentious and be under 25 with no published work to call your own
[] be a 'writer' but only crank out one or two poems a year, but spend a shitload of time shitting all over everyone's work

None for me. I have read Infinite Jest though. Am I still a hipster?

Becasue they're best or worst? LTROI was terrible, and The Green House was bad.

Did we ever find out what that picture was about?

The Sands of Mars – Arthur C Clarke
Sister Carrie – Theodore Dreiser
Black Rain - Ibuse Masuji
Brazzaville Beach – William Boyd
The Green House - Mario Vargas Llosa
Let The Right One In - John Ajvide Lindqvist
Lady Chatterly’s Lover – D H Lawrence
Amrita – Banana Yoshimoto
Against The Day – Thomas Pynchon

All partially read, but not finished, whether it be 20 pages, 100 pages, or 800 pages (Against The Day). Which should I resume reading first? To be honest, I'm not too hot on any of them, hence the slush pile, but still. I'm leaning towards Against The Day.

...do you read that you want to read, and how much do you read because you're 'supposed' to read it?

I'd say about 80% want to and 20% supposed to. It was about 50 / 50 for a while, when I became obsessed with what people thought of my reading habits, but now it's (thankfully) change to 80 / 20.

I finished the book. It was an enjoyable read, but much too short. I'm not even sure if it's a novella. I liked the main character, especially during his trial. I'm guessing that /lit/ thinks he's an aspie?

Excellent! I've always wanted to be a man, ever since I was...18.

I admit, I skimmed through it in the store, and it looks decent. Lots of good prose, some interesting ideas.

I was just in town, and rather than buy any of the other 5 or 6 books I sort of wanted, I got The Stranger by Albert Camus. Haven't started it yet, but I got it.

Tell me about Conversation in the Cathedral. I like Llosa.

>> No.1872821 [View]

Have you noticed how no-one on this board reads Maugham?

>> No.1872802 [View]

The only thing that is REALLY stopping me from buying The Stranger is the 180 page length...I like books that will last me a while. I'll think about it, though.
