I read "The Philosophy of '50 Shades of Grey,'" and I watched "There Will Be Blood," and the movie was WAY better than the book, I don't know what you're talking about.

I'd say, yeah, start with "Lolita." "Pnin" is also good, as are his short stories. Definitely don't start with "Pale Fire" or "Invitation to a Beheading."

>if virtues is all there is then is a well trained dog the perfect stoic since it has courage, temperance, justice and wisdom?
A dog lacks wisdom (for obvious reasons), and anyone who's "well-trained" possibly lacks the flexibility necessary for justice. Anyway, we all know dogs are natural Cynics.

Set a very, VERY modest daily goal. Like, five pages a day. Even one page a day is better than nothing. When that's become habitual -- more comfortable to do than it is not to do -- increase the number of pages.

I've donated to Wikipedia. It seems like the learning curve to actually edit Wikipedia is pretty steep.

Good grief, it's just a pithy quotation. Calm down. I wasn't really venturing to explain the failure of socialism in American in a single sentence.

They're fine. Not exactly an aesthetic delight, but if you want a copy of Marlowe's "Tamburlaine" or something like that, bound by itself, it's pretty much your only good option.

I know it hardly counts as literature, but I was just reflecting that, although I first read "My Immortal" over a decade ago, I still find it uproariously funny. I still struggle not to laugh out loud when I read certain passages.

Read Seneca before you judge; he's in favor of periodically getting shitfaced (for philosophical reasons).

Everyone (including most cover designers) forgets how funny the book is. This is one of the only Lolita covers I've seen that I think works at all.
