The Complete Works of Plato.
Arguably the most entertaining read in philosophy.

And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

That is the study of music, not the study of history.
Also, memorizing historical facts =/= any level of critical thinking, you know. You'd be able to recite facts but any time anyone would throw something odd at you, you'd fail.

The study of history is only worthwhile when partnered with a more pragmatic study.

Oh yeah, totally. So you can know everything that happened but know nothing about actually doing what other, better people did.
Take history of music for example.
Studying that shit doesn't make you learn all of music theory. It doesn't make you proficient in an instrument. It doesn't make you a composer. It just means you know what better people have done and you're a fucking leech.

Trolling isn't really funny, anon. It's obnoxious. If you aren't good at comedy, you should either practice more or give up. Nobody is amused by this.

Yeah, it's been awhile since I've seen a good thread on Aristotle.

You've mistaken determinism for fatalism.

Pragmatism: an approach that assesses the truth of meaning of theories or beliefs in terms of the success of their practical application.

Philosophy is alive and well. Certain areas are healthier than others. Robert C. Solomon did a bunch of writings on the philosophy of emotions during the mid-late 1900's, I think, he died recently. But /lit/ doesn't give a shit about modern philosophers, they won't care about good ol' Bob Solomon for another 200 years. Then everyone will flip their shit and think he's brilliant or something. That's just how philosophy works, m'boy -- Aristotle may have been respected in his time, but he wasn't known as "THE philosopher" until long after his death.

>Philosophers create concepts
I think you mean that philosophers discover concepts, anon-kun.
