In Cold Blood-Truman Capote did the true-crime novel first and he did it best.

Ten Days that Shook the World-American Socialist's account of the Bolshevik Revolution. It takes a little background knowledge to get into but its pretty interesting and includes text from speeches and pamphlets and newspapers.

Voices From Chernobyl-This one also takes some background knowledge of the Chernobyl disaster to get into. It focuses less on numbers and dates and more about the emotional effects of the disaster. Sad book, but worth the read.

Right now I'm about halfway through the Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. Its a total hipster book, but it gives a good look into the mindset of the people in the hippie movement and sometimes you do come across some really great insight about life from time to time. Some parts have been funny as hell.

I'm reading through the Modern Library edition of a book and some of the annotations are idiotic. Usually I find annotations to be useful and a good supplement (like when reading Joyce or Dostoevsky) but these annotations are a bit shit.

Update Time :)

>Voices From Chernobyl
Great read. You don't learn that many facts about the disaster, but you learn how it affected different people and how people came to terms with it.
>The Secret Agent
I've finished the first third and I'm enjoying it so far. Its got intrigue, terrorism, and anarchists. Me gusta.
>The Electric Kool Aid Test
A Nonfiction book written as a narrative (think In Cold Blood) about the hippie movement, etc. I don't really know.

Good evening /lit/,
My English teacher has assigned us to read a from the New York Times' list of 100 greatest modern novels. He calls this "Cultural Development" because he assumes that we've never touched a book in our lives. I'm not really in the mood for a modern novel and I'm actually in the mood for some Russian lit, but whatever.

tl;dr I'm thinking about reading The Secret Agent. Is this book worth my time /lit/?

I agree with the ideas and while I know that there will always be economic inequality in the world, the government should word toward leveling the playing field as much as possible.
