It's time again to vote for /lit/'s top 100 books.

Rules are simple: You can vote for up to five books, but you only need to vote for one. You can only vote for any given book once.

Put your submissions in the following format: Title - Author's last name. There are more details are at the link if you need them.

I'll try to post this thread a few times. Voting will close around the middle of December.

I have seen the top 100 books in the pinned pages and charts, I have read some of those novels and I am continuing now with another one.

The thing is that I don't want to just read novels all the time, or tales, or anthologies of short stories for that matter, I want to have the booksmarts and learn about everything I can, philosophy, psychology, politics, history, software, music theory, etc. As much as books allow me to.

Is there any top 100 of non fiction books regarding all kinds of knowledge? Or is non fiction grouped in a different manner? I want to learn everything that would be essential for me.

I remember that there was this character in a novel where he says that most important knowledge could be resummed in 130 books if they are chosen well, has this theory ever been applied? If not, why so? What books do you recommend to start with each category and field?

Here is the chart containing the final results of /lit/'s Top 100 Plays Poll.
Now I am not the greatest interior designer in the world, I don't even truthfully know how computers work. The monthly charts I do are much smaller than this, which is the largest chart I've ever done. I admit that it may be a bit of an eyesore, so if any of you have more of a knack for this and would like to design it yourselves, I welcome you too!
But anyway, this was a lot of fun, guys, and we got a pretty decent chart out of it. Hopefully this will spur more anons to read theatre and start more discussions.
Thanks to everyone who participated! Happy Reading!

We are currently at 73 ballots and 155 nominated plays. This poll is going really well so far, here are the top fifteen as of now:

1. Hamlet
2. Waiting For Godot
3. Macbeth
4. Oedipus Rex
5. Faust
6. Antigone
7. King Lear
8. Endgame
9. Othello
10. Julius Caesar
11. Death of a Salesman
12. Ubu Roi
13. Doctor Faustus
14. The Importance of Being Earnest
15. Mad Love Comes

Hello, /lit/. It just occurred to me that we may not have many proper charts for plays and the world of theatre.

I think we really oughta have a poll for it. There is a lot of fantastic literature out there on the stage, and I don't think we talk about them enough. Maybe with a proper chart we can encourage more interaction with the medium.

So friends, below I've posted a link to a poll where you can vote on your favorite works of theatre. You don't have to necessarily vote on which plays you think are the best, but the ones you've gotten the most enjoyment out of reading.

We are currently at 40 ballots and 92 nominated books. This poll is going really well so far, though I am surprised to see that no one's voted for anything by Shaw or Brecht so far.

What makes Mein Kampf the best literary work of all time, according to /lit/? I mean, it is first place on the list, with ~1500 votes vs ~200 from Moby Dick, really far second place.

Why do you think it's so relevant?

So I see a lot of people are a bit upset at the chart not having enough votes. Is it alright with you all if I re-up the chart for another month and then post the results in order to get the votes the chart needs in order to be authoritative?

Here is a chart of the results of a poll an anon did at the beginning of the month, charting /lit/'s favorite reads of the year. I can't stress it enough (because idiots will doubtless barge in confusing it with the other charts, failing to read): this includes only those books you voted for as having read in 2020. (It's doubtable whether all votes got this prompt in the first place; perhaps some - willfully or not - voted for their favorite titles anyway, read this year or no.)
What do you think? The top is still very much /lit/core, whether the votes are in earnest or whether this really influences people's reading habits to read those works. A bit too many Russians and burgers/Steinbecks and Camus's (though, for this year, I "get it") for my liking, but it's interesting to compare the different charts.

Original (results) thread: >>/lit/thread/S16979368

Here's the fixed version of the chart. Keep in mind it only covers novels.
The results were taken from a different poll which didn't involve the other top 2020 "controversial" (and stupid as fuck) method. Participation level was similar to the top 100 2014 chart.

Old thread: >>17139549

This should be the official chart.

There were two problems with the chart from earlier:

1. The chart was based on old data from the poll rather than the final vote counts as shown on the first page of the Google sheet. The tab on the sheet the anon who made the last chart used (third tab) is out of date.

2. The effects of hordes of poltards and tourists from sci and other boards deliberately ruining the list weren't corrected, hence why most people hated the last list. The original anon wasn't going to do that either, probably because he was a poltard himself.

Those problems are fixed here.

Finally, the long-awaited 2020 chart is here. This is the most eclectic top list we've had so far, since the voting system was a bit different this year - one person was able to vote for a single book multiple times.

I'm not the same anon who hosted the polls and came up with the voting system; he disappeared, so I made the chart following the Excel sheet he posted, which contained the poll results.
