this was great fun. Can you recommend more good audio drama? Be it podcasts or older productions on CD or whatever.
And I don't mean audiobooks where someone reads a play, I mean plays performed with full cast, sound effects etc.

Hello all. I love reading but I cannot do it while walking, so I listen to audiobooks and podcasts. Is there anything you guys would recommend on philosophy and literature?
Lately I really enjoyed the U22 podcast on Ulysses - which, ironically, has been left unfinished for now, just like most people leave the book unfinished.
Audiobooks and book-based podcasts thread, I guess.

>MY WIFE WON'T STOP WATCHING TV AND LISTENING TO PODCASTS ON HER AIRPODS AND THE ONLY PERSON WHO EVER UNDERSTOOD ME WAS A MENTALLY ILL 16 YEAR OLD GIRL WHO DIED GETTING HIT BY A CAR LIKE A DOG. WAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH

This book kinda sucks actually.

Of audiobooks?

Whenever I read a book, it's often that I read some sentence or paragraph twice before fully comprehending it. Which makes sense because the author carefully chose the words he used and took his time to convey the message in the book. However with these stupid audiobooks, one blink and you miss it.

I was hoping to fully comprehend and retain the books I've read with their audiobook versions but they don't seem to be efficient. I'm just gonna use cliffnotes or some shit now.

Why does this shit even exist? Should I just stick to podcasts?

I am not a native speaker and is hard for me to read and understand Joyce books.

Are there any audio podcasts that read and explain it?

I’ve been messaging the host of a popular YouTube podcast and he has taken my suggestions on people to interview.

What authors do you think would make good choices to request an interview? I’ll send them to him.

The podcasts main topics are self help and social issues from a center / center-right perspective

What are some pop nonfiction you've read and enjoyed? (i.e. history, science, and philosophy written for general audiences, not academics/experts)

I've been enjoying reading the works of David Grann (pic related), Timothy Egan, and Michael Finkel. (I use the word "reading" lightly, for most of these works since they're all written in pretty easy and straightforward language, I just listen to them on audiobook. They're basically my podcasts, something I put on to listen to passively and for comfort, but that's why I'm looking for some new ones).

Why the fuck is everyone obsessed with a bunch of trust fund loser edgelords who write complete shit? I've listened to the various podcasts that come out of this scene and they are incredibly vapid, yet people talk about them as if they're super smart. It's also cringe to see all these wannabe scenster writers sucking up to these dorks on social media. Am I missing something?

It all seems to be endless trash… shouldn’t there be at least a few brilliant autists that dump their works on Amazon? Podcasts and YouTube have a few turbos that dump their genius on the net for free unfiltered, so why not literature?

Listen to podcasts at work all day, but realized I could instead listen to audio books and actually learn something.

The next two on my list are The Worst Hard Time and The Devil in the White City. Can you recommend me some stuff?

Why does it seem like all philosophy podcasts are completely useless? They always seem incapable of explaining concepts without using the same jargon and examples philosophers use in their books. They essentially repeat rather than explain, and it makes it seem like they don’t even understand what they’re saying. Every time I listen to a philosophy podcast before I read the book, I understand practically nothing, and then listening after having read the book, it’s mere repetition, often without necessary explication. If that makes sense. Picrel.

We often hear about people who say "I dont care about money, cars, riches and other material things because I wont be able to take them with me to the grave" but can this be said about reading and acquiring knowledge as well? (reading, university, lectures, podcasts and all forms of knowledge and intellectual pursuits).
Whats the point of reading and elevating yourself and becoming an erudite if at the end, in your deathbed, those things wont matter and you will be buried and forgotten, and next to you will be other people buried from diverse backgrounds and intellectual abilities, all made back into bones and dust, undistinguishable from each other, all equal in the eyes of death.

>woke up at 9 am
>read around 40 pages of an enjoyable novel
>realised how sunny it was today so decided to go outside
>plan to walk while listening to podcasts, read books in car while drinking coffee, then play vidya later today before going to the gym later

I love driving around in the sun, listening to music, imagining myself as a Los Angeles detective or in over his head teenager / college student undergoing an existential crisis while being high at parties with attractive people while a mysterious serial killer stalks the canyons at night.

I have said this many times but I am now confident that yesterday's binge was the last one (until I reach my weight loss goal) and I can start losing weight now.
