So Kafkaesque it even references Kafka

But we did like the way you handled dramatic irony - I think this is what puts it in the same vein as Kafka. What we really enjoyed was your characterization of Mr. and Mrs. Baron, particularly through their dialogue.

It's hard creating a caricature (two, in this case) and giving it dialogue that has substance, but you managed to pull that off pretty well!

Yeah, within the coming two weeks once I fail my finals I'm gonna rework the FAQ to be more straightforward.

Would you be interested in looking over the poetry we receive over the month, and helping us decide what to include?

Yeah.
Not I've been doing any schoolwork.

But I'm thinking about changing the release schedule for the first Saturday of every month (since releasing on the 1st is a bit arbitrary, in terms of when during the week we release), so this will be a good test-run of that.

One of them was anthropomorphize, wasn't it?

>I grinned heartily. A new fetish, besides fetid fetisfucking, had occured to me. My journey to fill my dick with spiders was about to begin.

You have ruined a great opportunity at character development with exposition. Instead of telling the reader that your protagonist has been imbued with the desire to stuff arachnids into his loins, wouldn't it be better to somehow show it? Perhaps give the narrator a vision of several tiny arachnid legs squirming in the moist, tight flesh of the urethra (a deconstruction of masculine penetrative privilege - the academics will love you!) just as the heat of orgasm simmers in your cerebellum.

Or something like that. It's going to be difficult, though - you have to find footing on a very, very fine line: present the new obsession of the narrator in a manner that the reader can not only accept but EMPATHIZE with, but also avoid simply telling the reader what's going on (as that would ruin the vulgarity of the piece). If you can pull it off, kudos to you.

I am somewhat perplexed at your pointing out the pun in the first sentence, as it ruins a brilliant juxtaposition you establish with the subtlety of the pun and the outrageous context of the scene. This very nice contrast is only further amplified by the anthropomorphize of your penis as "king kong" (I must also express my admiration of how the spatial focus of the story echoes the plot arc AND creates a dramatic irony of the post-orgasm "decline"), and yet you ruin it all by bluntly pointing out the pun (perhaps this purposeful attack on subtlety is the REAL vulgarity of the piece).

I am not going to ask why, because authorial intent matters little in the end. This is yet another experimental piece that, while having potential, castrates itself in acrobatics of form.

It also lacks sensory detail and focus. Who am I to empathize with more, King Kong Dick or the spider? These are the two most powerful characters, despite the narrative being in the first person.

I'm sorry, but the multitude of problems in form make me unable to publish this. I hope you can work with the feedback I've given you to create a better draft.

>vulgar

TAR has published Blueberry Girl ("Oh no! This woman is turning blue and inflating rapidly! What will we do?"), The Adventures of Boris the Tentacle Beast (durr), and a long while back I remember there was quite a stir over a story where some guy cuts off his penis and it turns into a parrot. Or something like that.

Anyway, if it's well written and we like it, we will publish it.

>absurd

I cannot make any promises that your postmodern stream-of-consciousness modern-day-Ulysses will be published, but you are welcome to try.

>Vulgar and absurd

If your submission is worthy of the label "Kafkaesque" you are bona-fucking-fide my man.

It varies.

We try to send a reply as quickly as possible, just to give our contributors the peace of mind that their submission has been received. Our judging process begins at the 23rd of the month (our deadline for submissions), so ideally contributors will know a week in advance of publication whether or not their submission is going to be published or not.

Generally, if you submit before the 22nd of the month, you are going to be considered for the upcoming issue. If we get it later than that, we simply hold the submission up for consideration in the subsequent issue.

There are times where our staff gets swamped with other work (academics, jobs, etc..) so authors may not get feedback from editors until after the issue has actually been released. Nevertheless, we make sure to look over and seriously consider every single submission.

Hi /lit/! Did you have a good Easter?

theaprilreader.wordpress.com

TAR just released Issue 25. Our award winner for this month was Donald Borenstein's "Our FarFlung Correspondent." I'd also recommend "Temperature" by Francis Hume, if you're mourning the passing of winter at all.

Why not relax on this quiet Monday afternoon and read some OC?

This is relevant to my interests. Could you be specific about what made the text difficult to read for you? Was it the font? Was it too condensed?

How about getting snug on this chilly Saturday afternoon and reading some OC by your peers?

Would you happen to know the Dutch equivalent of, "monsieur," mon cher amie?

I've got this Professor from Belgium. I desperately want to egg on his sandwich of a language.
