What are you trying to say? Visual thoughts can still be described in language, the same way that external, visual stimulus can be described in language.

Bump. Come on, surely somebody wants FREE BOOKS.

Last read: Heart of Darkness. I'm glad that I read it, because it's a classic, and I feel like it's one of those books that you're "supposed" to read. Joseph Conrad really knows how to pepper his writing with beautiful thoughts, but oh my God is he verbose. I found myself drifting out of the story all the time.

Currently Reading: Chronic City, by Jonathan Lethem. It's absolutely amazing, one of my favorite books I've read in a long time. As I go on, however, I wonder where the plot is going. Nothing concrete has developed yet.

Read Next: Hard Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World. I want to read this one for the title as much as anything.

Oh, and if you're too paranoid to post your address on /lit/ (which would be silly but understandable), you can email me your name and address, and I'll mail your desired book to you from there.

This is a continuation of this thread >>1248938. There weren't many people on earlier, so I'm trying again now.

It's a Halloween Horror Giveaway. Here's how it works.

I work at a used book store. We were recently going to throw out a bag of some overstocked horror paperbacks. I rescued them before they could go in the trash. Now I want to share them with you.

Below is the list of books that I have (the ones that are left over from before). If you want one, just give me your name and address, and I will mail it out to you at my own expense. I don't really have the money to do an amazon wishlist thread, but I still want to give back to you guys. Hopefully some of you will get something out of this.

Oh, and I know that a lot of these aren't the best books in the world. But come on, they're free.

Black Sunday, by Thomas Harris (2 copies)
Red Dragon, by Thomas Harris (6 Copies)
Guardian, by John Saul
The Presence, by John Saul
Black Lightning, by John Saul
The Reincarnation of Peter Proud, by Max Ehrlich
Play Time, by Morgan Fields
Icebound, by Dean Koontz
Sole Survivor, by Dean Koontz
Watchers, by Dean Koontz

It's first come, first serve. So on your mark, get set, go!

Yeah, good idea. I think I'm going to leave this thread for a little while, and bump it later.

Uh... sure, why not. Unfortunately, I'm not getting as many bites as I had hoped for, so yeah, I'll ship to Europe.

For book recommendations, you can really just do a google search. There's a lot of good stuff for his age group out there. Work with him to figure out what he likes (realistic books, books with dragons, whatever).

Um... not to be a copout, but I think that you can find a lot of free teach materials online too.

I agree with what you said about the ranking. If you ignore the order that the books are in, it's a really good list. The only thing that bugs me a little is the amount of Michael Crichton on the list.

Awesome! And just for the record, I've posted my full address on /lit/ a couple of times, for similar things. Nothing bad has ever happened.

Oh, and just in case you're too paranoid to post your address on /lit/ (which would be silly, but understandable), you can email me your book choice and address.

I'm going to second P.G. Wodenhouse.

Also, I am going to strongly suggest anything by David Sedaris. He is absolutely hilarious.

Come on man, seriously? Different people like different things. That's hardly a reason to be insulting. Is it asking too much that you be civil?

John Trudell is a Native American musician and poet that was never formally trained in any sort of creative art. I strongly suspect that he would qualify as outsider art (though I haven't actually heard the term applied to him).

CAN WE ALL JUST AGREE THAT MURAKAMI IS GOOD, HE HAS SOME REPETITIVE THEMES, AND THAT HE'S PROBABLY NOT GOING TO WIN THE NOBEL PRIZE, DESPITE WHAT PEOPLE WANT?
