I'm at 64 / 100, I'm way ahead of schedule. I had my doubts about reading this much, but I've been having a ball (for the most part). So many great books out there to read, but if you don't push yourself, you won't read half of them.

>> No.1945717 [View]

I thought this was gonna be my favourite novel of his, but he kinda dropped the ball after a while. The first chapter should've been the template for the whole book. Oh well.

I hadn't even heard the wors hipster until 2 years ago. On the internet.

Chapters about the author's writing or his life in general - good

Chapters about the sci-fi / horror stuff - boring as hell

It starts off focused on the former (the first chapter is great), and by maybe halfway through it seems to focus on the latter, which is dull. Why does he do this? I've almost finished it, although I admit, I look forward to having the mysteries solved.

Asimov is amazing, you need to read a lot more of him. I agree with Hideous Men though, I thought it was DFW's worst work (although he's good).

>>1942977

American Psycho is good, yes. I enjoyed it a lot.

As for me, I'm reading Lunar Park, which is a good book so far. The first chapter was excellent. The Teenage Pussy chapter was very good too, but short.

I want to open my own really bad bookstore.

>laugh at people when they buy thrillers and crap, even though there's nothing else to buy

I'm reading Luna Park at the moment, and the first chapter was excellent, I agree. The 'skimming' style of it, all the clever language, and the funniness were great, as well as it being about a (real) writer and his journey.

Opinions on him?

I'm starting to like him, and don't view him as low-brow / trashy at all. I don't understand all the hate against him.

My bookcases are filled to about 130% capacity*, and I STILL am not going to buy a LOL Kindle.

*by horizontally placing books on vertical books** because I'm out of room otherwise

**even doing this, I'm nearly out of room

The funny thing is, a trashy thriller CAN be good, despite being trashy. I like the fast pace of storytelling, and the plot twists.

I buy about two thirds online, and one third at my local Waterstones. Online has a much better range, and is a little cheaper. But in Waterstones the staff are nice and I can actually look at the books. I went for a job interview there once, but they didn't want me. I still think about that sometimes.
