It depends on what you like. XCOM 2012 plays exactly like a turn-based Japanese strategy RPG (think Fire Emblem or Vandal Hearts) except a lot more simplistic in nature. If you like grid-based SRPGs without a lot of skills/classes, controllable characters (6 max in XCOM), or auto-countering enemies to worry about, then it could be a very good game for you.

But personally that's why I didn't like it. The old games are still the best and most fun IMO. You could attack multiple times per character turn, get your base's ass invaded, own like 10 different bases, etc. Despite being older they had way more features and were just more interesting in general.

But really, such a feat is impossible in general for many reasons. But it mainly wasn't possible for me because I was a person who 1) made 2-3 posts per day over the past year, 2) barely even created threads, and 3) was never around much anyways due to IRL stuff.

Also, "terrible posts" is just opinion, right? You can cherry pick bad posts and e-mail them to Team 4chan saying I'm a bad poster, or you can cherry pick good posts and e-mail Team 4chan on how I'm a good poster. Both are equally nonsensical (which is why I didn't do the latter).

Thus, a lot of what you say doesn't add up. And if it doesn't add up, then it leads me to think that there was more behind this than just "posting". Also my trip wasn't a vanity one; it actually is my online nick.

Ease of posting is the only point. Everything else you mentioned is just psychological, and it's probably why 4chan is so messed up these days. It really went downhill when people became obsessed with anonymity, rather than simply regarding it as another minor feature (like how using the name field is another minor feature).

A mod came into a thread about /jp/ and someone literally wrote a essay (hence why Zunbar is throwing around the name "Autism Paper Kun" and lied to the mod.

Also, as you know someone posted a huge list of fake !bar trips to pastebin and it's 90% likely that the mod mistook one of those trips for the real !bar.

I am sure if someone took the chance to use one of the fake trips on the pastebin they would end up being redirected to a ban page.

Threadbans are exceedingly rare and only ever hit massive clusterfucks, and permabans are never issued for those. If you are consistently a bad poster for almost half the site's lifespan, then that alone means you should be banned. You chose to be accountable, and you chose to be a bad poster. Anyway, the deleted posts start getting worse towards 2011/2012 and one could claim that it somehow reached a point where he was more liability than harmless fool. Another possible explanation could be that it's known that /jp/ didn't get mod attention outside of a few thread bans before /q/ brought some. There could have been a stack of requests from the past that suddenly caught their attention and when compared to the bans database revealed that the specific tripcode was evading a couple bans already.

ZUN!bar is nowhere close to the highest issue in /jp/ at any point. Sure, he's annoying and off-topic all of the time, but nothing compared to actual spammers and career shitposters. The difference is that he has chosen to stick with the tripcode and that makes him trackable. Not just to the moderation, but for the users. Even if the ban was lifted along with a formal letter of apology addressed by moot, he wouldn't be able to post without derails and a torrent of reports in his wake.

Not that any of this matters anyway. He can go and post if he wants to, but he chooses not to.

Now, here's an interesting point: say ZUN!bar is right. Say he asked a mod and the mod said, "Yep, ban table shows ZUN!barNOTYOU was banned for CP." Then where's this CP post? I certainly can't find it, and I just went through every "ZUN" post for the past few months (not fun). If the same user was banned under a different name (or posting anonymously), then how would the mod know it was ZUN!barNOTYOU? The ban table only shows one name, the name you were banned under (the one shown on the ban screen as "The name you were posting with was..."). It does not keep track of names. So where's this elusive fake ZUN!bar post that later led to the real ZUN!bar being banned for evading it? And why was ZUN!bar quite obviously banned on August 13?

It was a time of increased mod attention over /jp/. The issue here wasn't that ZUN!bar got banned since he's been before and he quietly ignores it, but that for the first time there was a post with moderation capcode stating that he was a ban evader. After that all his posts are deleted on sight more often and most if not all get "reported for ban evasion" replies.

What changed things wasn't that ZUN!bar got banned, since career shitposters like him get that on a regular basis, but that we got an official mod post saying that he was unwanted ban evading scum.
And trust me, it takes a lot to get to that degree. Was he harmless? Mostly, but towards the end he turned into a focal point of just awful posting. Plus now he serves as a warning, head on a pike.

In other words, the only reason we're having this discussion instead of watching another homuhomu thread in the board proper is that he can't post without negative attention now.

Since 2008 on /jp/ I have been banned like 60 times across multiple IP's. Mostly for NSFW content, shitposting and complaining about the rules.

Ever since /q/ has appeared shit has gotten a lot stricter and it seems the chances of you getting banned for making an off topic thread or posting NSFW content has gone up like 80%

I find it hard to believe it took the staff four years to figure out what he was doing and I am sure a lot of people have complained about him on IRC, via email and board since 2008. Why he was banned now seems weird.

How many inane posts I made doesn't matter, the mods quickly caught on me and I quickly learned to behave. Having a static IP can be quite annoying.

!bar didn't have that problem, he also didn't have the problem with "understanding" what /jp/ was about, since his ultra high levels of self-entitlement made him believe that what he was doing was always right.

I've been banned for stuff like posting NSFW before, which I rarely ever do. I have a hard time believing Zunbar was never banned.

So I just went through all of ZUN!bar's posts. Every single one. I only found four NSFW images:

There were a lot of borderline depends-on-the-mod kind of images. I mean a lot.
Around half of the images he posted were anime screencaps, usually in the form of reaction images.
His paranoia seems to have started about two years ago when he randomly began accusing everyone of being Sion.

On a happier note, his posts in the GUST threads were on-topic and informative.
He also contributed a few bits of music and made helpful music-related posts.
Threads he made that weren't deleted often contained useful links or news.

Overall, I think his ban was fair. More recent posters like King of /jp/ and Tokiko hadn't really broken any rules when they were banned, they were just low quality posters, yet nobody objected to their bans. Besides a few people using this as a shitposting vehicle, I think ZUN!bar's absence will increase the quality of /jp/ more than it will lower it. Just my two cents.

I have reached my conclusion two months later: both Zun!bar and the 4chan staff are ar fault.

1. Zunbar should have immediately notified the staff via IRC or by appeal that there was an issue with his ISP.

2. The staff, pressured by people on /q/ and /jp/, reacted too harshly to the situation and chose to simply ban him without looking into the matter more. This manner of moderation has always been dangerous and will only continue to create controversy in the future.

This was compounded by the increased moderation period starting with /q/ and by the fake list of tripcodes that were used by the people who did post CP.

I think that !bar should be unbanned and given a second chance. Put on a sort of probation if you will to prove that he is an acceptable member of the community.
