In the beginning, /jp/ was wonderful. With every new day came a new adventure.

But look at them now. Listen to their dialogue.

For what reason have things turned out this way?

It is because it has all been said before. Everyone has heard everything, seen everything. At this point, there's nothing left to say.

>> No.7848767

I don't get it. Is this the prologue for a kopipe thread?

>> No.7848780

It feels like I've moved into a ruined kingdom.

It became painfully clear that even though /jp/'s quality is obviously better, compared to most 4chan boards, it'll soon follow the path of the other boards.

I used to be a casual lurker&poster here, until a few months when I got tiered with /a/.
The same troll reposts which receive 250+ replies every day, shitty blogging/greentext stories, greentext&implying faggotry, radioshit and untz spam, imagespam(when something "epic" gets posted and retards flood reaction pics in response), closet normalfags, "JAPAAAAAANNN"-styled spam, gaia-level big3 threads with on a daily basis, gay/cross-dress shitspam, LGBT pride boys, dumb as wood tripfags(Uidrew&co. etc), ignorant /jp/-rejects, cross-board fanfic shit, poop-level waifufags with their /soc/-tier waifu threads, constant meme usage, shitty /b/ macros/reaction pictures accompanied with a post text fitting the image. But after the newest board flavor -- that is roleplay&fanfiction.net threads, I thought that I've had enough.

But I was too late, as it seems that this place is nearing its end.

Anonymous userbase + higher visibility + other, smaller but otherwise equivalent boards. Same thing that happens to most anonymous boards, really.

This is a dangerous combination, because the people who have been around for the longest don't have any post count / reputation / etc. that would present some feeling of obligation to uphold, so the bar to leaving one place and beginning to post at another is much lower. No announcements, no decisions required, no new account to set up, no profile links or e-mail addresses to change.

We have a lot of normalfags coming over from /a/ and /v/, who refuse to stop being newfags.

The same problem is what has turned /a/ into what it is now.

I've been on this board for two years, and I have to say that it's true, the quality has decreased overall.
However, it's not as bad as to say /jp/ is dying, I think it's just the normalfag flood that began when 4chan became mainstream. 4chan is just your average internet fad, and now with facebook &co, normalfags will migrate. /a/ and /v/ are beyond salvation, but this board isn't popular enough to say it's doomed.

New people discover a board and import their own brand of humor unfamiliar to the early adopters and long-time regulars, and possibly also bringing to the board their own personal in-jokes, as occasionally one person will find a new site and share it with their friends. Those who used to be most familiar with the site will find themselves alienated by these new users. Plus, the newcomers have an advantage over the existing members here because they have the ability to read through old threads, gaining a shallow familiarity with the site's culture and terminology.

This is a constant process, and it will inevitably happen on any small to medium-scale forum on the internet, but it's most prevalent and noticeable on anonymous boards focusing on original content, because those are the ones where the users tend to adopt part of the board's culture as their own.

It's been suggested that the internet operates on a much different scale of time than the physical world, thanks to the instantaneity and accessibility of broadcast communication. I believe this userbase shifting tendency takes place offline as well, with cities analogous to web forums. (Indeed, considering the original meaning for the word "forum" being what we might regard nowadays as a mall or plaza, serving as a meeting point and cultural center, it's a fitting word for the centerpoint of internet culture.) As goes a typical ice-breaker conversation question of what one might expect of a notable historical figure were he introduced to modern times, I expect that he would feel every bit as alienated as any early-generation /jp/ poster would feel when looking at how the board has evolved over the years it's been in place.

Now, joking aside, thing is, we're safe because of our whole mentality as a board. As long as inevitable newcomers don't come en masse, they either get assimilated or thrown out easily. As for the shitposting you see, it's part of that mentality as well and not as alien to the board as some people claim.

I disagree. I find that I try to read the longer posts all the time because you can see the time and effort someone invested in. They're trying to explain properly their point of view instead of killing any possible discussion through shortcuts that might as well be noise by now.

It's a slow board, it's not like in the time you took to read it the discussion has shifted entirely.

Are you me? /a/ got old fast and I quickly realized that I always fit in better with /jp/, because when I actually bothered posting in the few threads that interested me I never used memes, reaction images, greentext shit, or any of the other faggotry they constantly engage in.

If I can't stand anywhere but /jp/ and /jp/ has gone to shit, what else do I do? I suppose I could always look through the entire archive, but that makes me feel even more lonely than I usually am.

I think /jp/ is fine. We've had more shit threads lately, but it'll pass. We still have some quality threads too. Danmaku, little girl/tea, comiket, VN, original content, SICP, and Flanfly threads are what make /jp/ good and strong.

On second thought though, things are pretty bad today... I think it's due to our low activity. Since we don't make a lot of threads, it only takes a few shit threads to overthrow the front page. It's up to us to fix the front page by making new threads. /jp/ needs little girl heroes.

Attention, citizens on /jp/! Daily reminder for all of you.

You do not belong on /jp/ if:

- you like 3DPD. You may not like both 3D and 2D, only 2D is allowed.
- You have a girlfriend/boyfriend.
- Openly not NEET
- Support "anon is legion" mindset
- Don't like 2hu, complain about 2hu
- You enjoy/create/participate in the shit threads like sion botnet, /v/ideo, cock, gay, LGBT pride, 3D cross-dress, "so ronery =(" aka closet normalfag, greentext stories etc.
- You wish to have a "normal" life and bitch about it on /jp/.
- You enjoy a social faggotry/ life experience stories on /jp/.
- You bump shitty threads/never sage.
- Get angry at usage of sage
- You seriously respond to shitty troll threads, turning them into a troll circlejerk. (Instead of reporting and hiding it).
- Think that shitty repost threads at 02:00 with a flanfly picture near it are funny. (No, really dude. If you think that they are funny, you need a serious help).
- Never get doubles
- Post /b/ macros and reaction pictures
- Incorrectly use spoiler tags
- Incorrectly use greentext
- Post greentext implying

This isn't an off-topic post. It explains unwritten rules of this board, so you can more happily enjoy your time here on /jp/.

Have a nice day.
