When searching for the origins of the phrase "the cake is a lie," most results will declare Portal as the source. I am aware, however, of the claims that it predates the game in its usage to respond to trolling in lolicon boards (i.e. someone posts a link to goatse or whatnot claiming to be a link to "delicious cake"). I presume the latter explanation is correct... But I'm wondering if anyone knows the etymology of "cake" as it refers to lolicon. When did this start and why? Are there any internet scholars out there with an expertise in the seedier elements and communities? I'm fascinated by this type of cultural history and its kind of sad if it can't be or isn't appreciated from an intellectual perspective.

I recall we used the name cake on 7chan a long time ago. I used to be one of the main admins over on that site, back when it was a huge community almost rivaling 4chan at the time. It was one of the few lolicon boards, but since loli is grey area in some areas - illegal in others - the board became known as Delicious Cake.

Not sure if that is the real beginning of the term, but maybe.

Think of that as a euphemism for sex. Thus was the original joke. "Cake"

Now associate that with the jailbait that was posted on /b/ many years ago, when actual pedos resided there.

Then it came to refer to any young lady in general, then just loli.

My own thoughts are that lolis look very cute when eating cake, especially when the creamy white frosting gets on their face and they blush...etc
