I'm friends with a ton of Kigurumists. they are the exact opposite of furries and are the coolest people i know.

really at its -core-, coming from character shows and stuff in japan, kigurumi is for entertaining children, or taking cosplay farther.

kigurumis doing dirty things is generally looked down upon and considered "being mean to the character"

my bad, it so late here that its early (621am) - i'll try and be clearer - I watched a video linked here earlier, and it struck me how similar it was to things id seen when I was younger - mainly the 'banana splits' (well I am well into my 30's) which was full body costume kids tv - see pic.

Then it struck me - well the next thing of that type i remember seeing on TV was much, much later (teletubbies etc.) so what happened? am I just not remembering shows? (not surprising considering my live for intoxicants) or did western childrens TV turn away from such things to muppet style puppetry only to come back again?

nothing important just an idle observation from oooh looks like 1/3rd of the way down tonight's vodka bottle :P

I'm not sure what you're asking... but in the west reffering to "kigurumi" usually means youre talking about the anime mask kind. In japan, the phrase itself encompases ANY costume that covers your whole body, be it baseball mascots or animal pajamas. "animegao" kigurumi is pretty big and common in japan, atleast in the commercial areas. You see character shows and kigurumi versions of childrens' show characters all the time.
