Gameplay Eroge does make money, but then again i can sort of see why the KS exists in this case. Ninetail/Dualtail are trying to add QOL's, Fandiscs, and some extra's that were not in the original game, for Japan and for the Western market. In addition to how easy it is to fuck up physical goods, Kickstarter also just works out better for a single company working on titles sequentially with a stable team and a good idea about what is needed (and full access) for any needed engine work.

For a general publisher working on a bunch of projects, an all or nothing Kickstarter for any particular title needs to be done very early in the localization process at which point things can go very wrong and create a train wreck that lasts years (see Sharin, Sekai Project)
