It's only her second role. Inexperienced seiyuu sometimes have an amateurish sounding voice quality like that. Maybe they grabbed her from ASMR works. ASMR seiyuu always sound unnatural in eroge. I'm surprised CUBE recast her already for the next game as another main.

vndb is better insofar that users can write comments about how they read it and by looking at a user's other times you can tell if you can take them seriously. problem with vndb is that it's not only full of skipfags but also slow ass readers.

script sizes aren't a good estimate either because there can be duplicate text and programming code. people used to extract only the text to measure but that doesn't exist for all games.

voice files can be used for an estimate of minimum length but it doesn't factor in narration and unvoiced characters.

I finished the first route of R.U.R.U.R and thought it was pretty good, but now that I'm starting on actual heroine routes they're so much better it's kinda crazy. It's fun to play a mid 2000s game filled with constant literary references for symbolism although I admit I don't get why they keep referencing Solomon Grundy, beyond a couple lines comparing MC to him.
Also the another episode system where they give you the tools to write your own short stories using the VN's engine and then save them as files that can be exported and downloaded to other games to read other people's fanfiction is pretty cool, I can't believe nobody else has ever done that.

so renai royale was sort of fun as long as i did shiomine-kaichou's route
you can't go wrong with the "useless smug ojou + competent but fed-up-with-her-shit meido" combo and they did not miss the mark here
in fact that was the saving grace really, it was lighthearted and mostly free of drama, it was basically a fun time with the most borderline neurotic and 面倒くさっ gf you could imagine whilst the other heroines seethed and bitched and whined in the background and she smugged on them (and then whined and cried about it later)

Tough to say what's a good start. Maybe go by the setting that appeals to you most?

Kanon is solid but goes a bit to shit in Maeda written routes.
Air is underrated in the West and more appreciated in Japan. Its true route is great but the other heroine routes are underwhelming.
Clannad is too fucking long and has too many routes. If you're autistic about 100%ing it'll drive you nuts, Little Busters is just as bad with missable scenes. Clannad has good heroines but it drags, the comedy is very old fashioned/very hit&miss. A few routes are very weak or shit while other routes are great. The lack of Hisaya is noticeable. Clannad is still very good but maybe a bit overwhelming in content as a first game. And while it's an unpopular opinion I'll say it anyway, Clanand being all-ages was a mistake. It has some of the best key heroines and you can't fuck them. The payoff for the routes isn't the same even with Itaru's art. It can make me laugh and cry but my dick is unsatisfied.

I think those 3 are still the best to start with.

"Bad art" is a bit vague, but:
To me it's not rare that fundamental problems end up not being a deal breaker because of the artist's strong or unique style that overtakes logical problems. I think imperfections are part of art.

On the other hand I can get annoyed at small anatomical/proportion issues. For example with a girl character wearing a skirt, if I notice the legs/crotch not lining up with where the hips/waist is supposed to be. Or during H-scenes if the intimate parts are not how or where they should be. I won't let it bother me too much per se but it's still something I wish they would've fixed.
I guess I see it from the perspective that "I like this work, and this could've been better without that thing" rather than "that thing here is awful, fuck it al".

Varies a lot. There are years old ddls that miraculously still work and some newer ones that are dead. Without asking the uploaders directly it's anyone's guess how often they reupload deleted ddls without us knowing.

Some tricks I've learned is to look at which filehosts are offered. On ryuu there are older uploads with (gdrive1 gdrive2 terrasomething onedrive) which are almost always dead, not even worth trying. Certain other groups of hosts always have at least 1 working ddl.

Generally, no. Once I've gotten over the initial hurdle of accepting an artstyle for what it is, it never bothers me after that. Glaring errors like the wrong number of fingers or the art completely mismatching the text can still take me out of a story, but that goes without saying.
What messes me up is bad voice acting. If a seiyuu is miscast or just generally atrocious it can ruin a whole visual novel for me. Sometimes I turn all the voices off; sometimes I just stop reading the VN altogether.

I bought a mipad5 some time last year because reading VNs in bed is quite comfy. Once you're out of interesting games running in Kirikiroid2 there's really not many options, though, other than the sporadic android port. There's some chink x86 linux vm trying to run games using wine which works about as good as you expect, might be an option for early 2000 games. If you do have a desktop you can vnc into that and it actually works quite well for reading VNs.

Textractor's dev does not give a shit anymore, but someone on his github keeps updating the hooking DLL in the issues section, so you can try that too.
I'd have done it myself if I still had the game but I deleted it ages ago (wasn't worth keeping, wasn't even worth reading) and I'm not redownloading 6 GB of it, not even a 2 GB trial.

Textractor isn't dead. It's open sourced on github and there's an active guy updating it and adding features.
I don't know anything about Chiitrans but VNR "died" because it's closed source. Calling texthookers dead is dumb anyway, you can still use them for everything old and most new releases.
