it's missing a prequel chapter that is 5-10 hours long called teito moyu. The first 2 episodes of the anime technically are Teito Moyu, but it's barely the same thing because the anime actually came out before the VN chapter did. It was greatly expanded for the VN and not only where scene expanded and new ones added, scenes were even rewritten, so the dialogue is often different in the anime vs the VN.

As for why it's missing, there were conspiracy theories it's about the content itself, this is not the case. Then Yoshimune Kouki insisted for a almost a whole year that the reason it was missing is that the translation wasn't finished in time, and that they would sell it whenever that is done. That is not the case either.
The truth is that they have decided to hold it hostage in an attempt to boost preorders for their new gacha game. The strategy is failing.

TL;DR: You could watch the first 2 episodes of the anime, but it's going to be a really shitty version of what is missing.

>> No.43733089

Has anybody tested Claude's 100k context model as a potential translation tool for VNs? I'd like to see if it has any potential given that the massive 100k context would, at least in theory, allow it to translate while using a massive amount of preceding and succeeding text for better contextual accuracy.

I'd be glad to do any tests you all want to suggest to see whether or not its translation capability is anywhere beyond mediocre/machine translation-tier. If nothing else, the translations might at least be bad enough for the thread to laugh at for a bit.

Figured this thread was probably the more appropriate place to ask.

AI newb here, the 100k on that Claude model, is that lines/words or tokens?

Either way, are you looking for a game with an easily ripped script? I might could set you up with something in the KiriKiri engine

>> No.43733847

>>43733147
Tokens. For an initial test, I don't even know if I need a specific full script to rip myself so much as a good segment of (or starting portion of) a script that could be used to test how well it performs in terms of accuracy and translation quality. It might not be a bad idea to use a JP script excerpt that we already have a direct, human-made English translation for to do an immediate compare-and-contrast.

If it does turn out to be up to snuff, at that point it'd probably be good to zero in on a script that can be easily ripped and test how it performs in bulk.

In the meantime, I actually went and took a game script excerpt that I have multiple translation options for that may serve as a good benchmark for if Claude's translations can be considered at least "at par." Keep in mind that the 100k context capability obviously isn't being used whatsoever here given that it's a single isolated dialogue excerpt.

For anybody who actually feels qualified enough to evaluate translation quality, how do you feel about A, B, C, and D? One is clearly a comically trash translation but it's still necessary to include for comparison's sake.

I honestly hope they're all MTL and not just A and B, because C and D were painful to get through too. Pretty hard to choose between them since they're both pretty bad in every way but I guess D's English is less cringeworthy.

A is a human-made fan translation. B is DeepL.

C is Claude, without any contextual notes provided and translating in isolation.
D is the commercially released NA localization for the game.

If C is able to perform at the level of D without my even giving it an editing pass and without me giving it anything like a lore bible or preceding/proceeding context, I'm pretty satisfied with trying it out on something more substantial.

>> No.43748454

C reads all right, but it did make a pretty obvious error in translating 馬鹿でかい as foolish. It's good enough for fiction that will never justify a manual translation, though.

>>43743417
A and B are not good. C is the best especially because it still understands the context of the conversation that A and B lacked and is closer to Japanese but retains enough English needed to be understood. There will need to be refinement to it just slightly. D makes sense but then adds too much of its own superfluous language like B and convinces me D reads from B's homework.

Which for me, raises the question now of what a good full project for this might look like. I don't have anything that I'm particularly drawn to, but is there anything small-ish that'd be a good fit for a pilot run that otherwise is probably never going to get a manual translation?

As an extension of this and for this guy >>43743156 >>43743185, while I actually am really intrigued by the choice, it's probably not the best selection for a first attempt for a translation tool like this given the clear amount of complexity involved in such a massive cast, shuffling protagonists and complex structure.

If I were to list out a hypothetical perfect first VN to test this process with, it'd be:
>one with a traditional structure & single protagonist
>a small-ish, mostly straightforward cast (if the game has a wiki or other basic character summaries, you could provide these as permanent notes for the AI to reference as it translates for these characters)
>small to medium overall length, just to keep things compact for a first test
>a VN good enough to be worth translating but likely not big or notable enough to ever get a commercial release or manual translation
>can somewhat reasonably rip and export the original script text

If nobody has any suggestions for one, I'll probably do some research this weekend to try and zero in on one myself.

For the purposes of testing such software where multiple scripts may be useful, Kara no Shoujo in a month would probably be an ideal candidate as it will have two solid independent translations to compare the output too.
