40356514 No.40356514 [Reply] [Original]

For some reason most refuse to read japanese media, they will start a series and then constantly beg for a second season or more manga chapters to see what happens next, that may or may not ever come, but when you tell them that anime or manga is an adaptation of a LN or a VN and they could know what happens next right now they will vehemently refuse to read it.
I have even seen people complain about text on JRPG games when those barely have any text in them.
Also light novel thread I guess.

Some take it to the level of speculating about things that have already been written and treat "spoilers" from almost decade-old works with outright hostility. On the other side of the spectrum some worship the material and constantly ask for crumbs of "spoilers" while vehemently refusing to read them.
Some people are must be functionally illiterate and reading must be an effort similar to working out for them.

You know good and well adaptations will deviate from even works that were finished decades ago.

Audio-visual stimulation and effort. You get more color and noise from an anime or voiced game than from a manga or VN. You also don't have to click for the next textbox or flip a page if you just recline and watch an anime. Not to mention that in a LN you have to actually imagine what a character looks like when they show up. Ironic weebs and normalfags can't into LNs when all they're looking for is a new meme to share in their discord room. Consider why there are so many Persona fans that have never played an Atlus game.
Tl;dr - Lazy fucks are fucking lazy

spoiled for stimulation, cultural stigma against reading, mentally unfit finding reading excruciating like a fatty exercising and think he's dying after a jog, having gone through the visual adaptation and can't decide whether or not to re-read from the start or jump to last left off and miss details, having better things to spend energy and time on, having spent enough energy on a soul crushing job and just want to turn on the tv and zone out to bazinga

Light novels can be a slog to read. Pic related. It hasn't gone into any slaves nor any harems for the past 8 chapters, with the 9th being a dream sequence that doesn't go anywhere besides baiting future said slaves and harems. English TLs of such media can be dogshit either from official translators butchering it with cringe localizations or fan made machine translation making it disjointed to read.

Same thing with mainstream stuff like Overlord and Tensura Slime, both of those are also slogs to read with not much happening each volume.

It's really hard to take this argument seriously when it's the exact same argument normalfags use to easily dismiss everything they don't like, including any other kind of "weeb media", made even more absurd seeing it in /jp/ of all things.
Made worse by this argument seemingly only ever coming from people that don't know the genre or medium they are dismissing at all, which is the only way the can make those sweeping generalizations in the first place.

Audiobooks aren't any different. I hate reading along to audio. I end up reading faster than the audio and get confused when I'm reading and listening to two different things.
I think the best solution would be reading to someone else. That way I can read how I want, practice speaking, and have fun with over dramatic acting.
