For those who are unaware of Johren and why it's so disliked by nearly everybody, it's because DMM (the billion dollar corporation that owns Johren and Shiravune) are very heavy into censoring games (and not just with mosaics, they also change almost entire games, like in the case of Doukyuusei), they don't take credit cards unless it has this obscure function to it that almost no credit cards have, so people have to get their pretend Johren money from a sketchy-looking site called "offgamers" if they want to buy their games, their DRM is so bad that, if a person uses more than a few activation codes, then their site suggests to "re-buy the game", which is completely anti-consumerist, and they rarely respond to fan feedback, instead choosing just to ignore constructive criticism, and their closest thing to fan interaction is mostly just announcing their Johren-exclusive games, which then often go on sale, because they're selling terribly as a result of how terrible DMM/Johren/Shiravune are at running a consumer-friendly business.
Even if all Shiravune games were released on JAST today, I still wouldn't buy them, I have no interest in doing so. I went on the English Johren Discord, and the first comment I read is that the staff don't really use their Discord, nor do they seem to use the Shiravune Discord often, so I'm just gonna focus my attention on playing the hundreds of visual novels I'm interested in reading published by companies that actually seem to care about providing high quality service to the costumers (JAST, MangaGamer, Sekai Project, Denpasoft ect.), instead of wanting an anti-consumerist corporation (DMM) to put their games on other platforms.
If Johren wants censored releases, I disagree, but that's their right to do so, but I really don't think Johren should be allowed to take away games paying customers bought because of terrible DRM.
Johren is a pro-censorship and anti-consumer company that provides games more for "rent" than "buy" with their few activation code limits, and if you use those, then you no longer own the game you bought with actual money, and that actual money probably had to be spend on another site called offgamers, because Johren doesn't take many credit cards, and even then it's not guaranteed that the payment will go through.

"I, like many other visual novel fans, think Shiravune releases some great games and visual novels on Johren. You just not doing it right. In a modern world of digital distribution, torrents, donations, kickstarters and sponsorships - an ancient model of downloading DRM copy you bought is just that - ancient. People nowadays are using cracked pirated copies anyway - and they pay money only as a sign of supporting developers/publishers (to let them continue to develope and translate vns in future) instead of only way to get that game. In other words - they never even bother to download.the game they bought from developer's site because it butchered with DRM.

Doukyuusei was censored by Elf themselves in 1999 - wasn't it? DMM have nothing to do with it. Steam all ages version was butchered beyond belief by Johren though - but who cares about all ages version anyway? Eroges are not meant to be played as all ages - and steam users treats such games as dummy version anyway - until they can get 18+ patch. It would be other discussion if they wouldn't provide said patch or censor 18+ version additionally compared to Japanese remake version - nut it's not the case at all. Johren despite its flaws is far cry from Moenovel level of degeneracy.

Pretty sure Sukebe Elf managed to get in the top 10 of MGs licencing survey back in 2018. Lune nukige (at least the older ones that aren't just the same Saimin shit) are actually pretty good.

Supposedly the project keeps encountering problems. They purchased the web translation which is barely above MTL tier and leaks have suggested the translator is difficult to work with. Apparently the translator got permission from the Japanese company to do the web translation and has developed a friendship with the company, so they're forcing MG to stick with the same translator.

The voices also apparently have some issues. Some (not all) of the Japanese ports are voiceless due to the cost. In the newest title in the franchise they had to recast many of the characters as they couldn't afford the voices. If the Japanese companies can't afford the voices then I doubt MG can.

I just checked the VAs for the original and Bad Egg and while it sucks that we won't get Miki, Hirakawa and Yusa, I like most of the new voices so it's not too bad for me. Plus, with his current situation Suzuki would probably be out of the question anyway so maybe it's a good thing if MG goes with Bad Egg's VAs.
