The translation is dogshit, the cast as a whole is vastly worse than the first (not counting gurigura in the english translation who is a completely different character compared to the original japanese release) it's censored, and they just don't do anything with it. It boggles my mind how much worse it is, it's like nobody on team gave a shit about the title and were doing it solely to cash in on the previous title rather than actually putting love and effort into it like they did with the first. You could tell that the writers in the first one loved not just their characters, but the world itself. Writing even subplot stories for NPC's that don't even get a sprite. Like you just revisit a town you went to in the beginning of the game just because you can and after each act there's new dialogue for the characters there despite you never actually needing to head back to that area.

Evenicle 2 comes off as a title that is entirely soulless. Nobody in the development studio cared, nobody in the publishing department cared, nobody in the translation department cared. I give it a solid 3/10 and I wish I had never played it because it just ended up feeling like a massive waste of time. I have more enjoyment actually working at my 9-5 job than I did reading Evenicle 2. I would rather read Princess X than Evenicle 2 because you can tell that the writers at least cared about what they were writing, even if it was fucking awful.

>> No.38794519

>>38793990
While I don't hate it like the other anon, I will agree that the characters are overall worse than the first game. They just feel more bland, less interesting, and the interactions between everyone feels weaker (was what made the first one so good), but they are still serviceable and can have their moments. Same goes with the plot, where while the first wasn't exactly anything special in the first place it is kinda just recycling elements from it but with a less interesting focus (hero syndrome vs multiple partners curse).
Overall there are still some enjoyable moments to have with it though, so if you enjoyed the first you may enjoy the second if you temper your expectations.

I have the same problem with Evenicle 2 that i had with DohnaDohna. There's virtually no magic to the writing - no chemistry between the characters, no characteristic AS tongue-in-cheek writing, and the actual plot is just generic. I steeled myself through 15 hours of both games in vain hope that it would eventually get good -- after all my enjoyment of Evenicle 1 went up quite a bit after the entire main cast was assembled -- but fucking nothing of the sort ever happened in Evenicle 2. Utter mediocrity, which is actually more offensive to me than if it were terrible, because then at least it would be amusing. I got absolutely nothing for my time. Not even a fap.

I really hope this isn't going to be an on-going trend for AS games.

You are completely wrong. Sol Press died because they didn't pay their taxes, their employees, or even the companies they licensed games from. Sol also did this with their manga and LN releases. For whatever reason not paying anyone did not turn out to be a winning strategy.
Thinking this is because of liberal translators or poor translation is silly when Sekai Project regularly releases outright broken games. Sol Press just managed to not reach even that low benchmark.

I mean it's illegal in general, but most companies wont threaten legal action simply because it's not worth the financial cost of litigation against someone who could have 0 income and at worst would get 2 weeks in jail. However once you start selling those translations it becomes an entirely different scenario because now the developer has both legal and moral ground to stand on and can claim copyright infringement that has resulted in the loss of sales and the illegal enrichment of others off their own copyright. One of his best points is that the game's scientific explanations for what is going on are all bullshit that are meant to trick the reader. Taichi is an unreliable narrator to an absurd degree and babbles on about shit he doesn't know anything about, and if you read the game like a normal VN, just taking the MC at his word, you'll fall for it. There's tons of subtle stuff going on the in the game that went completely over my head.

Small example from the beginning of the book:

Taichi and Yutaka Never Forgot Each Other

This example concerns what Taichi erroneously believes to be his first few meetings with former bully Yutaka, who he claims to have forgotten. ... In the first of their meetings Taichi is walking home and, on the way, sees someone tripping and falling down. Taichi’s reaction seems obvious and expectable, but only appears to be so ... the original line (“araa?”) is recognizably female speech.

Yutaka tripping and falling never happens again, is never directly explained, nor is it ever mentioned that he has difficulties walking beyond the obvious; this would again seem a simple storytelling device, a way to kick off an encounter, but it is nothing of the sort. What happened is that Yutaka spotted Taichi, unconsciously recognized him, and manifested this unconscious recognition by repeating the last thing that Taichi had done to him: falling down.

After noticing him, Taichi also unconsciously recognized Yutaka and manifested this unconscious recognition by resorting to a girl’s mannerism, as he was used to back in those days. This explains, for example, why Taichi soon becomes angry for no real reason: that is simply how he rationalizes the anger he still feels for Yutaka.

In a second scene, Taichi and Yutaka meet again in the streets, and this odd exchange ensues:
Taichi: "Mh... oooh, Tanizaki!"
Shinkawa: "Kounosu! You been in good spirits?"

These odd nicknames are no random things. Tanizaki refers to Junichiro Tanizaki. From Wikipedia:
“Some of his works present a rather shocking world of sexuality and destructive erotic obsessions ..."
Kounosu refers to a Japanese city. From Wikipedia:
“Kounosu earned the nickname “Doll Town” for its many “Hina Ningyou” (a type of Japanese doll) factories”.
Taichi is calling Yutaka with the name of an author known to discuss sexual obsession and family issues; Yutaka calls Taichi by the name of a town known for his doll factories. Taichi used to be a Living Doll, Yutaka a sexual deviant. This is further evidence of subconscious recognition.

Well the developer isn't talking about it, so it's a pretty safe bet that it lost them a bunch of money. I'm curious if it bombed hard enough for them to do an uncensored re-release of it out of desperation.

Yeah, it does seem like a title you need to reread if you want to get all the references.

Yeah, didn't read all of it but it's mostly stuff we already know. I hope this doesn't mean they'll rope in more unsuspecting developers on the JP side.

>Overly Qualified "Ms." Mary - Released
With shitty westernized localization like this sometimes I wonder if Jast does care at all about their nukige sales.
