They're currently working on localizing the Venus Blood fandiscs. And I am all for that. It makes for a much more complete and joyous experience.

But do you think they've got aims on Venus Blood Savior? The brand new game? Or are they likely to aim for another specific title first?
And how did Hypno/Hollow do compared to Frontier? Do we have any idea? Is it deemed a success?
I am guessing the games remaining successful is important for any future plans for the franchise.

Hard to tell since it took about 3 month after it came out to get on steam and was only on GOG before that.

Looking at steamdb it did about half as good Frontier which is still pretty fucking good since Frontier had a peak of users 750 when it came out.

I'm insanely curious to see how well it'll sell after all the shit they pulled like where they were going to massively butcher the title and not release a patch for it only to be forced to change their mind when steam told them to fuck off anyway. Or them choosing to keep mosaics in the title when the previous title was completely uncensored.

Alicesoft games were all translated and released by Mangagamer, which included Evenicle 1.
Alicesoft announces that they'll be releasing Evenicle 2 by themselves on Steam. This already gets them bad PR because people view them as greedy.
The demo launches.
In order to get it on Steam, Alicesoft censors it. I don't just mean keeping mosaics, I mean they completely remove scenes.
Scenes also happen to be plot important.
Unlike say Subahibi they never told us in advance anything would be cut either, only confirmed when called out on it.
No promise of an uncut (with or without mosaics) release on another storefront nor a patch.
On top of that the translation is shit, like Nekonyan at their worst. Bad enough that one of the translators outright said they weren't responsible for anything in the demo.
Evenicle 2 gets banned by Steam anyway so all of this was pointless.
They go silent on Evenicle 2 for over a year, and only after Dohna Dohna comes out is there any news about Evenicle 2.

I didn't bother looking anything up to write this so there might be more I forgot.

>> No.38709057

>>38708470
Evenicle II was slated to be released ages ago. And they had a promotional campaign for it and everything, in which they also released a demo for the game on steam.
but then contrary to the initial implications, it turns out that they had cut a bunch of content from the game in order to placate Steam as a platform. Naturally the cut content infuriated fans but Alicesoft would not relent. All of rewritten scenes, cut content, and mosaics would stay much to the dismay of everyone, and in spite of the first Evenicle being localized without any such censorship.
But then in spite of having cut content and rewritten scenes to self-censor their game, Steam banned Evenicle II anyway. Throwing a huge wrench into the entire promotional campaign.
And instead of simply aiming for other platforms/storefronts and continue as planned without Steam, the entire promotional campaign receded into pretty abrupt, complete radio silence. In stark contrast to its prior fanfare.

Complete radio for over an entire year even though Evenicle II had supposedly been close to release the prior year. It really looked like they just gave up on Evenicle II completely when Steam banned the game. With no plans for simply releasing an uncensored version on platforms that have no issues with its content.
But the silence lasted until DohnaDohna got announced over a year later. At which point we got the first official word about Evenicle II since the initial promotional campaign. In which they basically just commented that they haven't cancelled the project and for people to expect news in the future.
And DohnaDohna got released. Except not on Steam. But unlike their Evenicle II project, DohnaDohna is localized properly and without censorship. In spite of their previous word of not wanting to do anything of the sort. Though mosaics are staying.
And now not too long ago, we finally got a real release date for Evenicle II, completely separate of the initial release window from the initial plans. And this time they really wanted to reassure people that the cut content from their initial plans are no more. And that scenes are no longer rewritten or altered. Though unlike with the first Evenicle, mosaics still stay.

And that's basically it. Here we are. It's slated for release in like a day from now. And it remains to be seen how it has been treated. But the game has been for a ride for sure.

Most of the audience who has played Evenicle likely would have never seen the initial issues with Alicesoft's original plans for Evenicle 2. The sales are likely to be much more dependent on how much of that original audience can be made aware that it was released off of Steam, and how comfortable that audience is making a purchase on niche R18 focused storefronts (especially before any potential GOG release in the future).

Probably be lucky to sell even 10% of the steam numbers of the first (which is still a lot compared to your average VN). Steam was just that much more convenient for people to buy from and they won't go out of their way to buy from external websites. Ninetail is the aberrant here, no other japanese company has actually listened to feedback and changed their approach as a result of it.
>Isn't it easier to just copy a succesfull competitor than trying to do everything yourself?
Yeah, but that would require a japanese company to actually do research and not just immediately assume that what is ok in japan is ok in the west and you know how xenophobic and lazy japanese companies are. Sure the doujin are usually pretty smart about it, but they have to be in order to survive. These companies can just drop $250,000 on a project and when it massively fails they can just blame the west and go
>Well it worked in japan so clearly the west doesn't want us or our titles
Completely ignoring the fact that they half-assed everything they did and fucked up on every level possible. No it's clearly the western consumers fault who chose to pirate our title instead of buying it because it our release was dogshit and we told those customers a year ago to go fuck themselves.

Ninetail is the exception here, not the norm.

I, like many other visual novel fans, think Shiravune releases some great games and visual novels on Johren. But the things that many are less keen on, however, are the censorship, DRM of any kind, but especially the kind that involves games only having a few activations which, if used, then requires another purchase of the same game they already bought (I think when people buy games then they should own those games), and the fact that many have difficulties actually buying games on Johren with their credit cards, so they resort to buying coins on a site like off gamers, and even that doesn't always seem to work, either.
All of those disappointing things decrease interest in all games exclusive to Johren, which is sad, because some of your games really are great. So my recommendations are to maybe think about making the site more user-friendly and work together with other companies to increase interest in your games to many more people.
JAST USA staff have said they would be happy to put their games on Johren's store in exchange for Johren putting their games on JAST's store, which would bring more attention to both platforms and the games on those platforms, and imagine how cool (and profitable) it would be if Meteor World Actor was on JAST and Full Metal Daemon Muramasa was on Johren.
So yeah, thank you very much for reading, and I truly do think that game sharing between companies would make great business sense for every company involved, as well as the industry in general, and it would be great for the fans, many of whom say they would buy more Shiravune games if they were without censorship, DRM-free, and on more platforms that are easier to buy games from, like JAST USA (which is generally thought of to be the best western visual novel publishing company).

>> No.38731359

Respectfully criticizing censorship and anti-consumerist behavior is not a "autism" but defending such terrible business decisions is certainly "hail corporate" levels of silliness, so be sure to post silly replies instead of making an actual argument, all in the name of the billion dollar corporation DMM.

>> No.38731420

What fuck are you even going on about

>> No.38731446

>>38731420
For those who are unaware of Johren and why it's so disliked by nearly everybody, it's because DMM (the billion dollar corporation that owns Johren and Shiravune) are very heavy into censoring games (and not just with mosaics, they also change almost entire games, like in the case of Doukyuusei), they don't take credit cards unless it has this obscure function to it that almost no credit cards have, so people have to get their pretend Johren money from a sketchy-looking site called "offgamers" if they want to buy their games, their DRM is so bad that, if a person uses more than a few activation codes, then their site suggests to "re-buy the game", which is completely anti-consumerist, and they rarely respond to fan feedback, instead choosing just to ignore constructive criticism, and their closest thing to fan interaction is mostly just announcing their Johren-exclusive games, which then often go on sale, because they're selling terribly as a result of how terrible DMM/Johren/Shiravune are at running a consumer-friendly business.
Johren is a pro-censorship and anti-consumer company that provides games more for "rent" than "buy" with their few activation code limits, and if you use those, then you no longer own the game you bought with actual money, and that actual money probably had to be spend on another site called offgamers, because Johren doesn't take many credit cards, and even then it's not guaranteed that the payment will go through.

I am about two thirds through the second chapter and it is basicaly a worse Evenicle 1. Not to say it doesn't have some good moments, but in the first you would find them every 10 or so min while in 2 they are much further between. The characters are also worse and more bland and the plot seems to borrow a lot from the first just with a focus on illnesses instead of the curse of multiple partners.
