the censorship completely kills all the romance and ended up causing me to drop the VN because I didn't want to spend 5 minutes holding CTRL through another route to skip the censorship. If I'm skipping parts of the VN, why the fuck am I reading it in the first place? So I ended up reading Onigokko instead and I must say it is a straight upgrade over Hello Lady. The cast is better, the protagonist is identical, the pacing is miles better, the action is better. They even both have the exact same intro scene with the protag fighting a group of losers, talking about alcohol, groping cute girls, and then starting school with them the next day.

It almost seems like HL tried to copy Onigokko except made it worse in every way. I think if it had been released uncensored it'd have been an okay read but that's really the straw that broke the camels back.

If I rename my xp3 to patch.xp3 and the adult content one to patch2.xp3, my changes are applied but the game reverts to all-ages. Same goes if I try patch3 and so on.

Merging everything on the adult xp3 is not worth it, the file is a full gig in size.

I know how Kirikiri works, including the fact that plain folders such as /scenario in the exe folder will take highest priority. This is why I use this format, since it works. Sure, it's not compressed like with the xp3 but you're not going to miss those extra kilobytes.

Wouldn't really recommend studying Japanese that way. English translations aren't always reliable. A lot of Japanese words simply don't have an English equivalent so you aren't always getting an accurate translation. It isn't really a big deal if you're just playing the game normally, but if you're trying to learn Japanese that way then it won't be very helpful. I recently worked with 3 kirikiri games to make similar unfuck patches to yours and none of them worked with incremental patch numbers. A "patch.xp3" did work but nothing higher than that. That's a real problem when an official patch exists.

It probably has a lot to do with how people perceive the world.
Language is usually something very tightly intertwined with culture. A lot of disagreements about translations come from a point of view that translation should translate not only meaning but also make cultural translation. For someone who is ESL it doesn't make much sense because for them there is no direct coupling from English to their native culture and thus they prefer translation that conveys and keeps meaning and cultural references of the original work in the translation, not translate them to the English/American culture.
When you know multiple languages it makes it much easier to decouple culture from language and use language as an intermediary tool between cultures.
