And part about supernatural powers is not that original even, you pretty much see all of this in other vinnies/movies/tv shows all the time. Protag is literally one of the best part of this vn, prose is pretty good (eops won't get it lol), and plot part not related to supernatural powers is actually good, yes.
Overall it's worth if you're plotfag, just don't expect too much.

Which reminds me, VB Hollow makes for a very good tell of the impact the Chinese ban had on the industry (best one being Cafe Stella when it comes out).

Hollow's all-time CCU peak sits currently at 225, far below Frontier's 757 peak at launch.
However, that is still fairly better numbers than an English only release. That, along with the fact that Chinese reviews outnumber the sole English one 28-to-1, leads me to believe that non-Mainland Chinese are still a big enough market worth catering to.
The game being funded through KS means they certainly turned a profit, but losing two thirds (possibly more) of your buyers has got to sting hard.

In short: companies that rely on Chinese sales are not SoL, but will need to downscale severely, and the market will slow down overall.

The only way to nip this issue in the bud is to just not buy the game. A translation of a title as large as that is very expensive, if they sell no copies they'll either be forced to pivot on their decision and offer a patch or sell the title on a different storefront. Or I guess complain about how the west is filled with pirates and that is the sole reason why their release failed because everyone pirated it instead of buying it. Not because they completely fucked the release, but because of the pirates who didn't want to pay for a fucked release.
