Maybe for specific topics, but overall basically the only major shakeup in the past decade were vtuber threads. No strong opinion on them beyond making the catalog churn faster.
Unless you're specifically seeing it from that recent perspective or comparing it to the speed of /biz/, implying this board is dead is bonkers. It's probably just that the thread creation and reply speed outside of the "coomer generals" is slower than you'd prefer.

Anywho I don't have a daki, or really any sort of personally owned art beyond doujinshi and doujin CD art. I see the appeal, but I don't get anything out of it personally.

Not really. I only come back from time to time out of nostalgia or when I need to browse some semi-useful boards like /fit/ /ck/ /g/ and /h/.
And every time it's the same, I realise crawling through shit is seldom worth it.
The only reason I ever open /jp/ is to see how low it has fallen; well I did try to make some threads but since they weren't your typical "Satorin's anus smells like Youmu who is the softest and a dork, Pache likes hip hopxD" the janny had a sperg. And those weren't shitposts either, if anything shitposts would probably make it to page 15 safely.

Well, maybe you don't know better places because you can't read jap, if that's the case then yeah I don't think there's a better place than /jp/ if you can't make internet friends. But present day /jp/ is worse in every way than how it was 10 years ago during peak shitposting, there's even less content yet the board is faster.
And it's all a result of the silly tug of war between shitposters and "moderation" staff because nobody really knows what should and shouldn't go in /jp/ since in the end it's just a containment board. And its board culture is nothing but a ghost at this point.
