Buying a dakimakura has changed my sleeping experience for the better. I'm a side sleeper so putting the pillow in between my legs and hugging it is a very nice experience.

I think I'd really benefit from a daki, but I can't stand the thought of what my family members would think. And I don't want to get a blank one without my waifu on it. I already hide my physical nukige and doujins and this feels on the same level as that.

I would just get the daki if you really want it and want to have a better sleeping experience. My family thought it was odd at first but they don't really mind now. I have literally cuddled my daki and talked with other people at the same time.

I honestly don't have an "official" pillow because when I bought my daki, I was a poorfag college student and I hated spending my money. I got mine from this website: https://www.royalpillow.com/body-pillows/
I got the medium "down-like body pillow"
It works perfectly fine but if I would just buy an "official" pillow to be honest.

Dude, if your parents know you like this kind of stuff, it won't be a big surprise. Just talk about it like a piece of decoration or even something you find funny.
I got my first daki when I was 15, I think. I was super worried about what my friends and family would think, not my parents, they know me well. I did what I told you, when my family saw it for the first time, I treated it as a joke, and when some "open minded" friends saw it, I treated like decoration. They will think it's cute or funny, nothing bad.
I won't tell you to don't mind what other people think, but be happy :)
Also, there are covers for dakis that you can use in cases of emergency.

Dakimakuri sells overcovers. They're just single tone colors that slip quite easily.

I sort of forgot about the potential of using overcovers, but I guess it just felt pointless in the grand scheme of things since there's no use for the graphics on it if I'm just going to hide it all the time. But I can see it being nice to have for 'emergencies' like the other anon said.

Good to note that it also depends from material which usually reflects pricing. However i have bought cheaper chinese variant once for around 90€ from ebay which probably was just them printing daki's without permission of orginal creators of variant and it was suprisingly good quality, tricot material i believe. It also had attachtable boob pillow pieces as a bonus.
But its always gamble to buy cheaper variants or from sites like ebay anyway even though some of variants can be hard or impossible to find outside of these bootleg printers or second hand.

Nope i mean body pillows and yes, cheap body pillows won't stay in good state or shape for eternity and its usually better just replace them time to time or invest to more expensive one but i am pretty sure expensive one's wont last forever either.
Probably same case with headpillows.
