Bans stopped most spammers.

This is probably true. Do janitors have the ability to ban now?

A few weeks ago I got two 3 day bans over the course of like 2 days. The first one was for starting a shitty OT thread (I was drunk), but even then it wasn't anything that would have warranted a ban before the recent addition of new janitors. The second one I'm not even 100% sure why I got banned, I think it must have been because of an otaku culture metathread that I started, but it obviously wasn't a troll thread.

In either case, it's not WHAT I was punished for that I'm trying to complain about (that's why I'm not gonna link to the threads in question; I know the first thread was dumb, and the second one was a type of thread that some people on /jp/ dislike), but HOW the punishments were carried out that I'm complaining about. In both instances, my threads remained, falling off of the front page, and I kept using /jp/ for an hour or so, then I woke up the next day to find that I had been banned. In both cases, it took me a little bit of thinking to even figure out what I had been banned for. Plus, checking my threads in the archive, I could see that there hadn't been any new posts made in them since I had gone to bed; in other words, in both cases some janitor or mod had found my little thread back on like page 9 or 10 after I went to sleep, and decided to ban me over it. I sometimes shitpost or make metathreads, etc., but I can take a hint; I don't samefag or bump my stuff if nobody is replying to it. I feel like the old meido would have just deleted my thread if anything, and getting my thread deleted is more than enough to tell me that I'm out of line. Plus, it would have been done in a timely manner; banning people over threads that have already dropped off of the front few pages is silly.

So that's why I don't think the new staff is doing a very good job, at least not with /jp/. Bans should be reserved for people who are actually spamming the board continuously, like raiders from /b/. They shouldn't be for stuff that is obviously posted by native /jp/ers, and that while maybe considered "shit" by some of us, is still an overall accepted part of the board. I kind of miss this thread that I'm posting in now, and it's only once per day, so it's not really hurting anyone. Are they going to ban flanfly next?

The new staff needs to learn to take it easy.

I don't know, I just got banned for CP despite not posting any. I guess I'll appeal it in two days.

No new janitor, no new staff.
All janitors were promoted to moderators about a month back.
Still more than a month left until they go through the applications. At best.

Transition period. It's been 3 months of bullshit so far, but it will pass in time.

If I were a mod, I would ban you so hard that even your next proxy would be instantly banned. Not the spammers, not the QUALITY threads makers, but you shitposting metathread-makers are the one that truly make /jp/ shitty. Stop whining.

Okay that makes sense I guess, thanks for the info.

Good thing for me you're not a mod, then. Keep on trying with those janitor applications though bro, I'm sure you could really make /jp/ shine.
