my experience is the opposite. i watched totally raw anime for quite a while because i found using subs and pausing to be a pain in the ass, and in the end i feel like i got virtually nothing out of it whatsoever.

rewatching shows i watched raw with japanese subs really highlighted for me just how much i missed out on without even realizing it, and there were no "aha!" moments for me at all.

yes. nobody on this board would believe how obsessed i am with Japan.
I drive 90 minutes each way to a Japanese grocery store, I only shop at uniqlo and MUJI, I eat rice and natto every morning and mostly eat japanese imported food. I study the language about 4-6 hours a day every day, I drive a japanese car, the list goes on.

I wouldn't actually call it an obsession so much so as an interest, but I do near constantly ask myself 'what would a japanese person do in this situation?'

I try to live as Japanese as possible because of all countries in the world, it's the one I respect and trust the most, whether that be social customs, habits, what products I buy, etc..

I buy japanese skin care products and do my weekly shopping at the aformentioned japanese grocery store.

The only really non-japanese things I do i guess are curse like a sailor and smoke a ton of weed

Thank you for your kind words. I made a deck in three days. First I decompiled the original game files, then I found a patch with the English translation. After that, I looked at the files line by line side by side. Deleted code tags with regex. Where there were mismatches, I fixed it by hand. After that I made csv file with bash script and imported into Anki. In general, I did not fill all the cards by hand, because the game text was into the program code, but I checked almost all 32 thousand lines with my own eyes. Honestly, I'm proud of my work.

To be honest, all the colors are difficult and I believe the key is in the kanji. さき is the same さき from 先。むら the same from むら so something from nothing but lays ahead in time… I am looking at this one wrong atm, but I believe the reason is that the colors (primarily) reflect mental states, hence why 白 is seen as a part of so many other kanji. It refers to the ‘self’ as a pure stronghold, hence also meaning castle しろ. 黒 is similar in that it is the unlocked part of oneself (all other possibilities in まま). (I will get more into colors later as I am rewriting what all the radicals mean, I believe there is alot more info in radicals than textbooks would have us believe).

didnt see this post. i would go to around 32 to get conditionals (tara/reba/etc). i think that much builds a pretty good base, and then if you watch a show with jp subtitles you can pick up very common words early on by just looking them up (assuming you do already know the obvious stuff from being a weeb: watashi, how to count to 10, etc). i would recommend doing a core vocab list but im waiting until after i finish RTK (maybe a mistake?). my vocab was bootstrapped enough by being a weeb + i already enjoy really simple shows (chi's sweet home, non non biyori, gj bu)
