What does /jp/ think of Anime Conventions, and the Otaku Cultural institution that is Anime Conventions?
I have not gone to one for years, but thought that /jp/ would have some thoughts.

The chick in the red is a butterface.

4/10, would still make the tiddies bounce.

>overpriced merchandise
>mediocre at best artists
>dub VA guests you don't care about (and if by chance there is a cool guest it's not going to be the convention within reasonable distance)
>panels run by people who don't really know what they're talking about
It's never worth it. They aren't good for meeting people either nowadays.

Noboru Ishiguro, Director of Legend of the Galactic Heroes would go to Otakon every year for a while.
It was my favourite anime ever, and the fact that he died in 2012 and I was never able to meet him is a great disappointment to me.
I wish I could have met him.

In my experience that's where online weeb friends tend to meet IRL, including people who are less into anime and just into /jp/ interests.

The problem is that any of the niche, uncommercialized interests are less represented for obvious reasons, but there is no institution for, say, Touhou or Idolmaster besides individually asking people to meet up for the sake of meeting up.

It depends on what convention specifically you're talking about and even which year. Overall though it's all good it's less of a human zoo than a comic con.

It's a topic for /cgl/, or /con/ if that board ever gets opened again.
