Hey cool drawings. I recommend trying to draw more lightly and softly though. Also try to not use too many straight lines. Constantly using straights and short straights makes it look stiffer. Try doing long soft and curvy strokes. Look into drawing from the shoulder instead of the wrist if you haven't gotten that down yet.

For sure. I've done coloring before but it is hard to stay interested in my current state. I feel like I'm wasting time because the whole "you can polish a turd as much as you want but it's still a turd" thing. Eventually I want to be able to draw stuff that can stand alone without the help of coloring. But I want to get really into coloring eventually as well when I get better.
This is just a personal thought that goes on in my head. I don't want to discourage anyone from coloring at any skill level especially if they enjoy it.

I mean hate it from a perspective of self judgement. They fear being criticized or they fear they do not measure up. Which is a bad thing to do as it handicaps yourself from improvement or making a difference in the lives of others.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/Dmb-PhuW0AEO1XB.jpg (wip)

For comparison, this is how I used to draw a year ago:

And when I just started, in January 2017:
https://www.pixiv.net/member_illust.php?mode=medium&illust_id=60784471

I hate or dislike a large portion of my old works now, but I didn't hate them at the time I drew them. There were only a few exceptions that I came to hate as I was drawing them, well justified. Nevertheless, I'm grateful to them too because they, or others' reaction to them, helped my growth.

I was thinking about how some people show their work and never see flaws with it so it gets stagnated. Like a lot of deviant art users post a time line of progress and in 10 years nothings changed it is still child grade

Thank you. I draw the textures by hand, using various pattern brushes in accordance to my vision (what looks I want to achieve). Clip Studio Paint has a plenty from the start, and you can easily create your own.
To explain further, >>19879598 uses 3 or 4 standard pattern brushes (skin, walls, air particle spray (btw, this is the same spray that I used to texture the gloves)), 3 non-standard brushes (green wall, doors, and hair), and 2 patterns of my own creation that I originally used for hair, but they weren't too good for that—although they proved to be quite good for many other surfaces like wood and skin close-ups.

Maybe, if there is any reason to do this. Youtube seems to go hard on lewds even if no genitalia or nipples are shown, and practically everything I draw is R-18. Moreover, my process doesn't generally differ from what I've shown, and music more distracts me than helps, so I usually draw for hours in total silence. Nice shading. I think it would look more natural if you color your lines to be a darker version of the color instead of black. You can do this by setting your lineart layer to 'preserve opacity' and coloring over them

I strongly suggest you to focus on drawing likeable faces (FIRST) if you don't want to stay bullied forever. Out of these four, only the Nagatoro and Senpai can be called somewhat passable, even though hers is fucked up and his works simply because he's a chibi. The other two are simply hideous. Pay MUCH MORE attention to eyes and symmetry. DO NOT draw mouths like that. STOP. You may keep trying drawing noses like that, but simple ones look better.

I have never seen anyone or a photo of someone who is able to fold their body like that, putting the hips alongside the torso. It's impossible precisely because the very shape of the pelvis bone, the points where the hips are connected to it (even in females), and all the meat around the bones prevent it. This image quickly stolen while Google wasn't looking (is it ever, though?) should tell you why in a single look. The best you can do while folding your body in line with the legs is about making a T shape (aka make a split—staying within the range of movement your pelvis allows), but I'm not sure it can be achieved without sufficiently hard support.

What's shown with the redline, on the other hand, is possible if you're flexible enough.

Sorry. But im trying to aim for the same face style they had in Akira movie. or at least a hybrid. Im probably doing it horribly. but, i dont think i can bring myself to purposely change to standard anime face. But. i tried to work on symetry. or at least attempted. I drew a line connecting the two eyes this time...

Im still trying to practice my fundies crosshatching. still failing.... wanted to try redrawing a piece.

Gonna try to draw more lewd SFW rachel alucard next...

Besides the fundies being fucked. Do you guys know how to make cross hatching like this, more professional???

>> No.19943030

Oh, I see. That makes sense.
You know why Akira (I'm assuming you're talking about the animu/manga) works and what you do doesn't? You aren't paying enough attention to Akira's characters and style of depicting them. The first point is, you're adding TOO MUCH DETAIL. Thing is, when you make a pretty or OK-looking stylized (aka exaggerated) face too detailed, shaded, it will inevitably get ugly if you're a beginner. Even this pic of your proves that.

The second point is, there is literally a single non-ugly female character in Akira—Kaori. The majority of the cast is either guys (who aren't exactly handsome) or malformed old-looking females. That explains the masculine looks of your drawings.

You are using lined paper. This is an issue.

Stylistic errors include outlining the entire thing with a thick dark line for no particular reason, and then drawing another outline around that for even less of a reason and adding random X-shaped hatches in it. That just flattens out the image. Don't ever do that.
There is shading, but no consistent light source. Shading on her neck and waist suggests light from the upper right. Shading on her right and left arms suggest from below and from the left, respectively. Shading on the head and tail suggests absolutely nothing. Plan out which areas should be dark and light consistently before you do anything.

Other stylistic errors include just adding random "" marks to the clothes because "oh they have to have wrinkles" but you haven't bothered to look down at the clothes you're wearing to actually see what they look like and how they're built.
The dress also suffers from this. You've put a series of vertical lines there because "that's how dresses fold." Figure out the order, stitching, and pleating of an actual dress by buying one or stealing one from some girl's room or just bunch up a towel over your waist until you can figure out how the cloth actually interacts.
Don't be discouraged because the geometry and behavior drapery is extremely difficult to actually get right from reference and even worse from imagination.
While we're on the topic of clothes, you should keep in mind that even though fabric is thin, it has thickness and volume and should be placed *over* the body, not suctioned or painted to it. The collar is a good example of where you have failed to take this into account. Collars and seams of dresses, socks, etc are usually folded over and thicker as well in their actual construction. The transition from shirt->dress also suffers from this, because the shirt should either be placed distinctly over the dress or tucked into it. Here, you just have a straight transition with a line across it, so the stacking order is impossible to tell. Again, take out of some your wardrobe and really dig into the details of how it's been sewn together by some sweatshop workers in Bangladesh.

Construction wise you actually managed not to fuck up the head too badly. Most people instinctively draw the face far too large so good on you here. The entire face is placed off-center however. Compare the location of the chin to the mouth and nose.
I can't say much about anatomy. I am terrible at it, and most of it is hidden underneath the clothing you've got. The head is too small compared to the ribcage, I believe.
The hand is a mess and I don't believe that angle is possible with a tightly closed fist as drawn, but it is with a saber grip. Grab a ruler or mop in this orientation and look at your own hand. Hands are super fucking difficult to draw so don't worry too much about this, but if you can get the orientation of the palm and the blob of meat under the thumb then you're good.
Also constructionwise, the tail should be good practice if you try it again. Rather than drawing a noodle and putting lines across it while guessing wildly at which way they're supposed to curve, draw a series of cylinders that describe its location and configuration in space. The rest will follow.

Sorry for the terribly long rant and poor advice. My autism is flaring up.

btw, i was kicked from an /ic/ discord.... again!

Im always argumentative. Really, i only came to the server to get specific critique on things. But when i post work, it would either be people saying its cool or just people saying work on fundies.
So i ask someone who said to work on fundies what specifically is wrong?
>the torso dont twist that way, the arms too short, legs too long
and i thanked him. and said thats more useful than telling me to "work on fundies"
>youll never improve if all you get is specific criticism. just draw a mannequin a bunch of times and dont draw anime girls at all
>look at me, i dont draw what i want. i need to draw X 100 times before i even try to attempt drawing what i like
so i told him thats gay. the best way to improve in art is mileage and self evaluation. And i said self evaluation is pointing out specifics, and that something like drawing boxes a 100 times is stupid, because why is the magic number 100? Why not 105? or 97?
So anyway, that went back and forth before he kicked me out of said server.

I dont know. I know you guys favor /ic/ side of the argument.
But. I just always believed the best way to improve through art is mileage and self evaluation. And the only way to have self evaluation is having specific critique on the things youre trying to achieve. Like with the torso thing, i now cant look at the torso of the devil girl or hips or horns of suika without cringing. And im going to try to never repeat specific mistakes again. And i hope i can point out more specific wrong things with all my pieces. I just think.... its a lot more useful to work on one piece for a 100 hours. Try to make it as perfectas possible and re-drawing it over and over. Than to just say
>fuck it. im bad and this is impossible
>*draws a 1000 manequins*

Anyway. I hope my mileage and self evaluation theory works in time lol. and that /jp/ can one day love my anime girls.

Are you fucking retarded?
Not getting too specific feedback is meant to lead you to what you think is the key - self evaluation. They point into the right direction and want YOU to figure out the specifics. That is what self evaluation really means. Self evaluation is finding specifics YOURSELF.

And he's fucking right. Work on the fundamentals. Because that is what will actually make you understand and get a grasp of what you need to make your anime girls nice looking. To make ANYTHING humanoid nice looking. You need a grasp of irl human anatomy to bend and shape and stylize to your will. If you just copy something that is already stylized then you will misinterpret the base layer.

I am willing to bet by how you phrased this that you misunderstood a bunch of what those people said and picked on arbitrary semantics.

If you are who I think you are, fucking get over yourself and start taking feedback more seriously and don't think that you can just ask people for how to improve every time. Be more reflective.

To draw liquids, you don't need anything but a standard round brush of oil kind, i.e. color-mixing with pen pressure-controlled opacity and configurable hardness. As for your brush... hmm... I think I saw something similar either when I wasn't using a tablet or forgot to enable some setting in Photoshop, but I don't remember what it was.
Having looked around in the program, it likely was brush size jitter... the top setting if you right click on "shape dynamics" in the brush settings.

Who are you quoting

If you at least were able to show some semblance of self reflection, it wouldn't be so bad.
Fact of the matter is, if you want "fans", get good. You are among the least skilled posters in these threads and want fans? 80% of the regular posters here don't have "fans" - and are not asking for them. They are here to share artwork and receive as well as give feedback without the need to mince their words. You want some words of undeserved encouragement? You want someone to butter up your ass? Go to Tumblr. I am sure there are still plenty of circlejerks over there that have open spots for people that just want praise without the grind to make artwork that justifies receiving it.

Stop being sorry for yourself, stop overselling drama, stop your fucking blog-posting.
Actually practice. Mindfully. If you do that and show some kind of progress, then we can talk.
People that are actually good at drawing draw dozens of pics a day for years. And most of them ask for nothing.

Go fuck yourself.
If you think grinding for hours on end makes you special, think again.
Nobody here is good naturally. You are undermining the hard work everyone put in for years on end. The hours on hours, days upon days, months upon months, years upon years they practiced, practiced consciously, THOUGHT ABOUT WHAT THEY CAN DO TO IMPROVE, studying drawing, drawing what they don't want to draw, gritting their teeth in order to get something done.
And here you are, some entitled fuck that wants a participation price for his lack of initiative.

"Naturally good" my fucking ass, you cunt. You get no encouragement for sacrificing your health, you get encouragement once you show any quantifiable signs of actually taking advice to heart, but you fucking don't. You ask for feedback, but you ignore it or deny its validity. You think that you have the answer to how to get good when you obviously don't, and you blame others for not pointing you in the direction you wanna be pointed to.

Get over your fucking ego. This isn't your circlejerk or mental support group, it's a board for artists to share art. Not to blogpost about their (in reality very avoidable) problems.
Your art is not good. That's fine, everyone starts out unskilled. But it's your ignorant attitude that ticks everyone off.

Anyway, you DO HAVE to learn humility and self-reflection, like >>19967496 has said.

>>19967496
Dozens of pics a day is kind of way too much of a requirement for considering someone "good." I doubt even Kim Jung Gi does that, and surely the other top artists who produce a painting a month have only, maybe, drawn a pic with 10+ characters a couple of times.

>>19967780
>> i literally draw from 12 am to 6 am every night you asshole.
This phrase is the answer to what you don't understand about being rejected, and I did not understand as well in the initial stages. Firstly, you're blaming someone for correct and constructive criticism whereas the correct approach is to try and see what makes others consider you bad. Secondly, you're drawing instead of sleeping, which makes you irritated, sleep-deprived, and unable to be productive, meaning that you're unable to learn anything. You DO NOT need to draw for hours every day. What you need is to—exactly—draw mindfully, continuously, and consistently.

>> in fact, its actually more like 10 pm to 8 am. i often miss class because im sleep deprived constsntly and accidentally sleep past class. I had to fail my accounting exam, all because i wanted to grind in a few extra drawings before it.
You are a retard, my dude. You. Are. Doing. Exactly. What. A Retarded Person. Would Do.
Put your health and real life first. If drawing stresses you this much and causes problems, think if there's any real reason to drawing for you. If the ONLY thing you want from it is to be praised and successful, the correct thing to do is drop out from it.

>> you guys think i just shit out each drawing after 30 mins or something and dont think getting gud is my number one goal in life.
Then you're not practicing. You're doodling. Because if you were actually pursuing that goal, you would have been able to draw very attractive girls by now. How long has it been since you've started? I think it has been more than one year, anyway.

>> you guys think im just some lazy shitposter
Yup! Couldn't have put it better myself.

>> And i know most of the gud people here probably only have to draw 3 hours at most just to get praise cause theyre naturally good
That's kinda bullshit, you know.

>> naturally good
There's no such thing unless you count IQ, which is practically your learning ability. Everyone starts about the same, but many people consider different points as their starting positions.

>> i wish i got some encouragement for sacrificing my health for this shit.
Go fuck yourself. Being a retard and an ignorant drama queen is not something you ought to be praised for. Not even if it would have actually resulted in considerable progress, which it haven't. I have already said above what you should be doing instead.

>Dozens of pics a day is kind of way too much of a requirement for considering someone "good."

I should clarify what I meant perhaps. I don't mean that you should do dozens of finished drawings, of course, but dozens of sketches are very realistic on the journey to get good. And of course, the more you draw - without sacrificing your mental health and rest time of course - the quicker the progress can be made, assuming it is mindful practice, not just mindless doodling of things way out of one's depth.
I for example have drawn between 5 to 20 sketches - study sketches - when I was learning the most.

That one is still very elaborate. When I talk about study sketches, I mean, for example, 10 drawings of a head with face, followed by five drawings of it in another perspective. Etc. Of course the quantity varies and is dependent on how complex the subject is.

Dozens of drawings is not at all unrealistic. I am talking about sketches here. Not finished paintings, not refined - just basic studies and sketches, which are ultimately the best learning tool.

So i might have unnecessarily spammed a guess the name sort of embarassing bullshit. So I deleted it all to save more post space.

I mentioned that I could also fix the bottom part of the legs, I'll see what I could compromise.
But I see how it's shaped to look now, thanks Yuuka anon!

I once saw a picture on /ic/ where a master painter bothered to redraw most of a nearly complete pretty-much-what-no-one-here-can-do-yet-or-in-two-years-level painting with either dragons or dinosaurs due to a composition flaw the closest dino/dragon introduced. While this may sound hypocritical because I don't do this much work to fix, say, faulty perspective when it's pointed out at the "finished & last review before posting" stage—only fixing something that I myself can see after trial and what ruins the pic or can be fixed with relative ease, like the head here—I still think it's a good attitude that every one of us should strive to achieve.

Then this would happen. Also woops didn't mean to make it this blurry. I accidentally drew really small and had to resize it.

Rather, original compositions with lyrical content about the world of Gensokyo and its inhabitants.

50.
But I'm the type who over scope then cut it down to manageable levels. Most likely 10-20.

That person got balls. I'll get to that stage someday but definitely not this time since I need to fix all the clothes too. I'll try to fix it as much as possible though.

I don't usually comment but here goes.
One, the shape of the forearm on the left makes it seem broken.
Two, fingers are quite deformed. I guess the best way is to take a picture of your hand and reference it.
Three, boobs too high (Although there are drawing styles which did this). But to me, it's just too high.

>>19984091
>>19985179
Another thing to add, to fix the boobs, you need to fix the location of the armpit. From what I can see, your armpit and boobs placement relative to each other seems ok. But it doesn't match with the rest of the body.
Good luck with your drawing though!

Hope I'm not too late for critiques. I used to do graphic design as a teen but these days I'm learning from the masters. I wanted to experiment with thick lines so I decided to use the style from Marisa stole the precious thing. Not strictly oc, but I just wanna share it with people who will appreciate it on my home board.

Just force yourself to draw one thing, then another thing, and if you like the process itself, you'll soon notice you don't need to force yourself anymore.
You can try finding an inspiration to speed this up. A Twitter challenge will do too. A nice musical piece will do as well.

>> No.19986165

>>19986140
I don't lack the inspiration, rather the drive or energy.
But if I remember the past, just starting on it always worked.

>> No.19986276

How often do you fap? I've long since noticed that fapping makes me lose energy to do many things and, perhaps, drawing skills too.

>> No.19986496

>>19986276
Once or twice a day, and that actually may be a part of it.
Maybe I'll try to reduce the frequency.
Fapping has become more of a chore anyway.

>> No.19986669

>>19986496
I see. I myself normally do it at 3 to 7 days intervals, and I normally don't want to draw the day after doing it unless there's an inspiration spark. It gets hard to abstain when I draw or model lewds or just sexy legs alone. It's also easier to abstain when treating it as a quick, tedious chore. Conversely, it's hard to abstain when you don't do it often but when you do, then you imagine having happy sex with your waifu, take it slowly, and climax imagining a happy vanilla-style mutual climax assuming a matching position, resulting in a maximum release of endorphin and after-regret being replaced by prolonged warm and fuzzy feeling.

There was one Taoist guide on how often you should release your semen (and it was talking about having sex with your wife), and it basically says to record a point in time and abstain from sexual activity thereafter until you can take it no longer and think only of busting a nut (morning wood state doesn't count, watching lewds doesn't count either—basically, if the boner calms easily enough, you can still manage). The time it has taken for you to reach that point since you've started your abstination is your best interval for semen release to maintain your life energy.

For me, that interval is about 5 days.
