I haven't read in a while its kinda tricky getting back into reading jap, any tips?

I can handle moege well and need to look up a word or two every hour or maybe not at all.

With a text hooker I get too attatched and struggle the moment I turn it off after a while I get used to it and its easier to just put it in auto and read, it keeps things constant and if I don't get something cause the text moved too fast I can get it through context or just backlog for a second to check.

Stuff like Sakura no uta isn't hard but the wording is unique? Its takes some time, I haven't read these types of texts before.

That's good. Challenging yourself with new kinds of prose is good, it broadens your horizons.

And honestly if you can read a moege without problems then you just need more vocabulary so just keep jisho/rikaichan open and keep looking up those kanji. You'll notice that you'll need to look up less as you go on,

I'm playing through Fate/stay night right now.
I know the routes are Fate > UBW > HF

I was told there were certain choices I need to make to go on the routes but I've also been given different files for UBW and HF

So once I go through fate do I just launch UBW independently?

More VNs with a strong male cast rather. Really tired of all these games where in it's just MC and 9 girls, or otherwise MC, 1 or 2 male friends, and then 9 girls. It throws the dynamic off. A lot of good games make it work but it's still not something I think is a good practice. I think VNs should have something like a Bechdel test - how many conversations are there that aren't just MC and a single heroine talking, or just 4 heroines taking turns talking to MC with brief asides at each other? With more males in the cast the dynamic of conversation becomes more interesting and less focused on MC dominating the conversation despite usually being a blank slate.

The problem is that these games are named Bishoujo games, they are made for the purpose of getting along with cute girls, dating them and fucking them. They are games made for this purpose alone. Making a male charcters just to make conversation more natural is probably a waste of effort, time and money for eroge companies especially if the game isn't plotge and doesnt really any male charcters. While having a strong male cast is really cool, all Iam asking for is non self-insert MC or MC's friend not a complete idiot or desperate virgins. You guys don't get it at all. Visuals are barely important outside of nukige. You spend 30 hours not looking at the art, you spend 30 hours reading. You're going to be seeing the same sprites and BGs for the whole game that you saw in the first hour or so. They're hardly relevant. Anyone who's read a well-written but ugly game, and anyone who's read a shitty but pretty game, knows this. Furthermore, as for "might as well be reading an actual book" - yeah! Real books are fine to. When choosing whether to read a VN or normal book, the difference shouldn't be visuals but rather whichever has more interesting writing and you want to read more at the time being. There is very little distinction between VNs and normal novels, reading is the main activity for both of them.

My backup files give me 548 individual games, give or take 50~60 due to the way I backup entire series in 1 folder. About half of those are nukige of varying levels of quaility

>What kind of VNs do you read?
Used to read everything I could possibly read back when I was studying Japanese, now days I tend to only read thing with paranormal elements in it, anything that gets rather high scores all around or fetish related nukige. I'm a fan of eroge that take place in other worlds with different species, societies and social structure to ours even if it's just a rehash with a couple of minor changes.

>Do you also read "actual" books regularly?
I haven't read for personal reasons this year however due to general disinterest (Lack of Shelf space doesn't help) and working on my eroge backlog, the only books I've read this year is books related to my younger sisters studies and she's a 9th grader so there's nothing noteworthy there. I guess we simply hold different approaches to the medium. I don't read books at all, haven't for a long time. The visuals, music and voices are very important for me in a VN. I enjoy reading scenario or plot focused games a lot actually, but when they are not voiced, for instance, or the art is shitty I lose my interest quickly, unless the other aspects are great enough to compensate. For instance, to cite a relatively popular game with crappy visuals and no voice, I couldn't have enjoyed Umineko if it didn't have music or had shitty generic music, even if the story itself is interesting. I can't really read a VN just for the text, it has to have something more.

I'm still wetting my feet in VNs (100 read compared to your 500) so to speak, the two VNs which stand out in my mind as having been well written and having fairly poor everything else would be アルカディアの灯火 (OK visuals but low quality everything but writing to make it cheaper) and さよならを教えて. I'm interested in reading Gore Screaming Show and 冬は幻の鏡 (The latter of which, a quick glance at the vndb page should speak volumes https://vndb.org/v1344).). The latter has a writer I really enjoyed and the former has a really interesting character I want to read about, and that's all I'm considering.

However, if you know what you like there's no need to go outside your comfort zone. I'm not judging you or saying you're living life incorrectly, we just like different things... I myself would be unable to read a game I was uninterested in even if it had the best visuals so expecting you to push through stuff you aren't interested in would be hypocritical of me.

This ending was bullshit, it makes no sense
>lets combine 3 ending ideas we had even though its bullshit
1.Sakura's not really dead but a ghost see the ghost picture
2.Sakura runs through town in her wedding dress along with her childhood self and mention how they'll both love the Hatuyuki
3.Sakura sits in their classroom with a snowman on desk and says some words before fading.

Any of these endings would of worked why combine them it looks stupid it looks like she sat in the class room said those words put on a wedding dress ran back to them with her childhood self and changed back to her school unifrom for the picture, maybe not that order but its retarded.

Also why does Aya probably the strongest fighter not use her weapon and just keep getting hit. She just stays there its like a bad joke, the game mocks you for picking her, no swings of the sword or anything its not like the game didn't have them they just chose to let her stay still and take hits, she doesn't retaliate or anything.

Also if Hatuyuki is the so called king of ghosts what does it really mean all the ghosts do is scare people, if you know the ghosts are there he's basically a person. The only time the ghost did something was make him levitate and maybe give him an edge in one fight but other than that it does nothing. He fight on a basis but with his fists and never really uses the ghosts, even when dying they do nothing, they just yell from being hit its so stupid I hate it.

I haven't been this upset since persona 4, I really hated the cast during the final scenes.

Its not like Nijima can't write fight scenes even if he doesn't they just put sound effects of fighting nothing happens at the end he just takes all these blows and yells how to back off or he's gonna do something.

The thing is I really liked this game its probably my favourite eroge but the ending is so shit, also why do all the cool events happen with all the girls when you're on a route with Sakura, why not the neutral route?

The music is amazing the snow theme really works well and seeing the puzzles pieces fit together is awesome, among other things. There are also some things that could've been done better but overall I liked it, its flaws were horrible though.

Shit I'm playing this. Like you I really love the music and the snow theme makes for a great atmosphere. Did Aya's route and loved it because she's best girl and I thought the route was pretty decent. Did Yoru's route and similarly thought it was decent. Started Shirokuma but my progress has grinded to a halt. I'm a pretty big lolicon but unless some serious stuff gets revealed in her route then she really doesn't feel like she should even be in the game in the first place. For years it was just called "VN General Thread". At first both translated and untranslated discussion were allowed and encouraged, but gradually it turned into almost exclusively untranslated discussion, while translated VNs got their own individual threads. Then /vg/ happened, and the EOPs all flocked over there, only returning to this thread to shitpost. At one point a year or so ago (?), the shitposting got so bad we changed the thread title and amended the OP to make it explicitly for untranslated stuff.

I made a dumb poll as a joke that people took seriously for some reason, and that's how we ended up with the エロゲスレ part of the title.

The sad truth of it is, I don’t care about why. None of the questions that are there to bait the reader are interesting. Each element is only there out of a token attempt at story.

>What they should have done instead? Simple. Three houses make up the governing body of the island, and compete over resources among their factions. Protagonist is either some developer there to build a resort or hotel and has to choose which area. Or he moved there for something like medical reasons or just to get away from a previous life. Let the reader act as a mediator or fan the flames. Build on the setting and characters. So some area is closed, maybe the protagonist who is not part of a faction takes it over and rebuilds that area as a neutral zone for people. The point being all these random gimmicks do nothing but weaken the story, the characters, and even the setting. Sometimes simple is best.

That's overstating things. There's only one common route ending, and if you got the right flags (I don't remember if max rating was one of the requirements) you'll also get Ushio's epilogue after the common route, and while it doesn't have any plot heavy stuff or new revelations the final game treats both Leyline 1 and 2's Ushio epilogues as canon. Your score only changes what Rito says at the end in the evaluation screen, and getting SSS unlocks a wallpaper.

So reading Ami, and all her explanations for manipulation, all the dialogue on how to dominate others, is really not something I really want to do. Changes to Release Date

We, same as any other gamers that bought games from legit source, have no obligation to provide any content to anyone.

You would not fu*k sagaoz, fuc* foolmaker, f*ck twitter, or *uck any forums for discussing games or provide auxiliary content of the games.
You would not *uc* the Japanese creators for making the games expensive, or for not giving you the game for free.
You would not *u*k game shops for selling games.
You would not f*c* other uploaders or sites, some of which earned far more than us, for not buying then posting the games.
So why do you **** 2DJGAME/Mikocon.

If you are unsatisfied that we do not provide the games ASAP, sorry, we are not able to cater for you.
Please simply ignore us, like you do to the other users/parties I mentioned above.

With leakers that have no appreciation of 2DJGAME/Mikocon's effort to provide a reliable source of games while minimizing impact to Japanese creators,
And the availability of more independent uploaders uploading new games on their own, reducing the need for 2DJGAME/Mikocon to support the release scene,
We will be further slowing down the rate of releases.

The VIP area will not be visible to guests anymore. If you wish to see what is available in Mikocon, please register.

Changes to VIP Application

We will not be accepting any more new VIP applications from users that have a Korean IP, or is exclusively using a proxy to access Mikocon, with the exception of donating by Alipay, which is not anonymous. This ban will be removed when our DRM is fully active, and without problem for 2 months.
Recharging for more credit is allowed for existing VIP.
Korean VIPs, or VIPs that used proxy to access Mikocon in March 2016, that purchased either one of 黒髪清楚ちゃん物語 or 貸し出し妻、満里奈の“ネトラセ”報告3, before the leak time on Nyaa, have access to 新作 disabled, at least for the next 5 days and may be even up to 3 weeks.
We understand that most leaks are due to uncaring friends or minor mistakes and not intentional. We will issue a checklist of items that you need to verify and agree with, before we will re-enable access.
We will, as soon as we have staff time, make DRM version of games already in 新作.

About DRM

We have a basic version of DRM ready for immediate deployment, which upon running the game, contact our server whether the version of game is still valid.
We can disable the leaked version from our side.
All games currently in the VIP area do not have DRM added, so we have disabled access to 新作 by known leak suspects.
This simple DRM was made last week after the leak of あけいろ怪奇譚.

The leaking had continued despite the warning to add DRM, so we are now preparing a stronger DRM solution, with full Username/Password authentication, that is somewhat going to be stronger than Soft Denchi.

Remember to register to the site first. The site first seems to allow you to purchase without registering, but if you try doing that it'll give a generic "card not accepted" error without explaining anything, probably because of a foreign card. After registering that restriction seems to be lifted and I was able to buy Himawari with a debit card.

Also if you buy the cheaper ISLAND CM付版 there exists a patch that removes the unskippable commercial (which plays every time you launch the game) and fixes bugged BGM looping as well.

Replace sprites with 3D models, backgrounds with modeled environments, kind of like an interactive movie. The display would be the same as in a VN, except you could move closer/further away from the characters, give them a hug/kiss when you want like in nekopara and so on. The design is simple, but VN companies don't have anyone who can write a decent 3D engine.

>I don't get Yuumi's scene where she throws the book.

I would say that's rather clear-cut, but let's go through it. Nakahara Chuuya wrote the revelant poem (春日狂想) after his son died. It deals with how Nakahara plans to live afterwards. Verses like
>奉仕の気持に、ならなきゃあならない。
> 喜び過ぎず悲しみ過ぎず、
capture it the best, I feel. (In the end this didn't last long for him, he died himself in short time too).

Naoya starts repeating the start of the poem to himself after his mother Mizuna dies (you see this in a short recollection scene at the very beginning of I Fruhlingsbeginn). And he follows the devotion to 奉仕の気持 by saving young Rin from fire and by saving Rina too, sacrificing his ability to paint in the process.

The in Zypressen if you follow the normal end, you have Yuumi losing Rina (she doesn't die like Nakahara Chuuya's child or Naoya's mother, but she's effectively lost to Yuumi just the same), so Yuumi goes 奉仕の気持 and blesses Naoya's and Rina's love.

But in Marchen Yuumi stays with Rina. So she recites 春日狂想 and throws the book away indicating there won't be no 奉仕の気持 from her.

In the game it's being used when characters talk about what "genius" means. hadler, moogy or someone like that wrote about it somewhere and I found the interpretation agreeable. Genius isn't someone who continually does ingenious things, but someone who "dwells in possibility". Naoya embodies this. After Kei died Naoya spent almost a decade doing nothing, going nowhere, yet when the need to fix 櫻達の足跡 appeared, he simply pulled out plans he made for it before.

Saihate no Ima is technically heavily unfinished but it still manages to thematically cover more ground than most other eroge and feels complete despite the two missing categories. It also has one of the most insane plots in the history of eroge to boot, this isn't really the issue imo.

The issue is that Kouya was heavily misrepresented. Keep in mind this is also after Takahiro pulled something similar with Ou Jackson in the whole Anegin fiasco from early 2015. People gave him extreme backlash over just using Jackson's name and writing the whole thing himself so he backed off and let Romeo write the actual text in Kouya, but did everything else himself. It also feels like he gave him a huge number of directives and limited him by not letting him do anything interesting with it at all. The text itself is enjoyable and it is a very funny game, it's just that it's... kind of a waste. Why hire someone as influential (and expensive) as Romeo, market the game as some huge multimedia project and hype it up for years if you're just going to have him write a very short, very typical Minatosoft game?

Again, that stuff is all secondary to the 欺瞞 that went on with the game. Stuff like using 第二部 to refer to the adult life part that was advertised that ended up being only one part of one route is just deceptive, plain and simple. I actually bought the game for 10k yen expecting to get what was advertised and I'm pretty salty that it only ended up being 15hrs.

On that note, there were people talking about how length doesn't really matter in previous threads and I agree, games shouldn't be padded out to meet length requirements. Even in Romeo's work alone you can see what that looks like in Kazoku Keikaku, with the common route dragging on forever after D.O. made him stretch it out to 3x the length he originally wanted it to be, but I think that this is a different can of worms. The problem here is that this game COULD have been good, but every time anything cool came up it gets resolved in an unrealistic way, then brushed under the rug and goes right back to silly antics about highschoolers making eroge.

As long as the content is of high quality I don't mind a shorter read but I honestly don't feel like Kouya was worth my money. I feel like I was lied to and my excitement for a new eroge by my favorite writer was manipulated by Takahiro so he could sell a short game for full price.

Oh well, plenty of other stuff to look forward to in 2016.

That interpretation is so straightforward, and pretty much ignores all but the first line, that I can't help feel there's something more.

For whatever it's worth, I took it more to compare Naoya with Dickinson.

Naoya, like Dickinson, isn't eager to share to share his work with the world, and (in epitaph and VI) is content with somebody else taking the credit.

Now comes a bit of a stretch.

Dickinson had to deal with being born a woman in the age she lived in (windows, houses). Naoya had to deal with the expectations that come with being born the son of an internationally acclaimed artist.

This is more of a stretch still, but he also "spreads his narrow (damaged) hands" to "gather paradise" (e.g. saving Rina, 櫻達の足跡).

Note that it goes Category 1->2->5. It skips over 3 and 4, there were apparently constraints in some way. I can't be arsed to look up the exact details of what happened, but yeah.

You even have flashbacks to events from those Categories in 戦争偏, for example pic related.

I also think that Saihate no Ima is very complete in a sense myself, but there was clearly supposed to be more. The final chapter having endless links was probably a byproduct of that, I feel like some of it was probably supposed to be exposed over more time but since it ended up like it was you got 150kb of encyclopedia entries in a relatively short period of time.

Disclaimer: Saihate is my favorite eroge by a wide margin, but I'm not so delusional that I think it doesn't have any problems.

It was cool how it felt more like a FD to KKK in the end
Pretty much definite that Sakuya is Claudia's reincarnation, heck I even doubt that there is any Helga in Sakuya now. The Helga we see in DI and Ikabey is just Bey's relic who love him so much she took her form but based on what Claudia say in the end the true Helga was probably pretty different. Sakuya is probably just Claudia's soul + part of the fake Helga that she got inside her and became her Sakuya's yandere side.

>> No.15021610

>>15021575

Well when you put it like that, yes

>>15021581

Yeah, I got serious Sakuya vibes off her from the start but then as time went on it became more and more obvious that was intentional. Then of course that stuff at the end was just a clear pointer. Gonna have to reread KKK soon and see what I pick up on that front.

Anyone else being a little confused by the 熊本弁 in Maitetsu? I haven't seen it used much in other places so this density is catching me off guard, though it's not so intense as to make the game unreadable. Surprised to not have seen any comments on the subject.

Yes because 90% of the scenes are same with the anime, so if you watch it'll just feel like 15 hours of rereading.

If you ignore the anime + their bunch of lies the game itself is not bad at all. Just gotta play it without seeing the anime and not expecting the shits they adversited.

Senshinkan was pretty cool and I had a better time reading it than most other eroge, but it was definitely nowhere near DI for me. DI wins out for me in characters, setting, story, ideas and 燃え by a lot.

I guess my biggest complaint is how unfocused it is and that Yoshiya and his friends were bland as fuck, especially coming from Shirou/Ren/Habaki. The villain side had some good characters especially Amakasu but he's barely even around at all.

I'll read pretty much anything Masada writes so I don't care what he does next but like I said I am glad to see him back with DI for the time being.

It's not that hard to figure out what they're saying if you know the language. Natives of the region say that the dialect is "real" and like how someone would actually speak so it is similar to listening to real Kumamoto native. One user said that having the text makes it a lot easier to understand.
