There we go again after a break.

New releases since the last time:

Vgperson has released:
Moonlight ghost: http://vgperson.com/games/moonlightghost.htm
Mogeko castle:
http://vgperson.com/games/mogekocastle.htm

Memories of Fear released Corpse Party IF Past End.
http://www.memoriesoffear.com/games_corpsepartyifpastend/index.html

And their next project is "Peret em Heru for the Prisoners", which looks stunning (pic related).
More info here: http://meipe.fc2web.com/corps.html

Vi2222 is supposed to translate Pilgrim by Kona5 but no info so far.

Tosiaki is finishing Seventh Night (Oshichiya) and has announced that his next project will be Migawari Shoujo (Substitute Sacrifice Girl).

Yes, although I don't really like the idea of altering the creator's work.(Which is also why I'm hesitant to mark up those images that make up the chapter screens.) I was planning on just making it reset the name to the official one after the screen.

I should also mention the battle system's remaining japanese text is completely un-changable, since they use the default, unless an actual hack for that exists.

I think after I go through the game, I'll make some sort of translation note file and add that in too. No one's still really edited it or given any feedback (besides that note about the beginning of ch7 from a previous thread), so after I play through it and check for text errors once more, that'll be just about all I can do.

There's no other images with Japanese on them as far as I know, excluding the intro screen, which you all know says Taoruketto wo mou ichido anyway. (Which I think of as "Towelket Once Again", but I'm sure people have differing opinions on how it should sound.)

Anyway, regardless of if I edit them or not, and to put them for myself for future reference, the images say

Chapter 2 - Frozen in a Towelket
Chapter 3 - Defrosting day/Unsealing day
Chapter 4 - No.3-No.3! Kerubaasudeuusa! Kerubaasudeuusa! (The first part of the second name might be the way the author pronounces Kerberos.)

Thank you! Could you upload the pictures? I hope that some anon can help.

Even if it is not a highly professional job, it would help to have a little, discreet subtitle. Not in Comic Sans but way better than nothing, despite the fact that most people is familiar with what it says.

In my case, for instance, I found it quite puzzling to write the name at the start just in hiragana/katakana, so it would be really nice if you just default the name afterwards or skip the whole name setting altogether.

Again, thank you very much for your incredible work.

If anyone's interested,

BrownSugar released a new game earlier this month called A Vague Story / 雲を掴むような話.

kerogbell dot wix dot com slash mygallery#!in-the-press slash c238g

If you like Inu Curry/Madoka scenery, it's a great little game to kill half an hour with.

If no one wants to get into moon, I already eMailed her and asked to translate, and she's down with the idea, but wants me to wait until version 2.0 comes out in a few days.

She also made Patty and Mr. Miles, which is cute as fuck.

For a game that only lasts about an hour (impressive quality too, for a personal project in an RPG editor), Patty and Mr. Miles is intensely cute. However, it was also BrownSugar's science experiment with the program and it was left incomplete. Based on the way she talks about it on her blog, I don't see her updating it at any point.

I'll ask her about translating it though. I'm still peeking around inside of Wolf RPG Editor and looking through what makes everything tick, and I think I'm in love. While I miss text dumps and the like, romhacking is a way badder bitch

For someone that's making "grotesque" games, BrownSugar's kind of adorable. Calls people -sama(at least she did in our eMail, but I think it's because I come off like a customer? I'm almost worried I insulted her somehow with -san, since I know some folks can be pretty anal about that) and her favorite Disney character is Gretchen from Recess, so hey.

Depends. Most main of main characters are humans/humanoid. Cow-chan is a cow. Armstrong-tan is an Armstrong gun robot girl. Fufufu-san is a ghost that makes that fufufu laugh.
Pucchi is generally a half-human half-dog half-cow robot. (Depends on the game, but possessing usually at least the qualities of being a dog girl.)
Warawau is some sort of half-Pon and half-Pucchi. She's also referred to as a panda.
Mochi is a... mochi girl, or at least she grows mochi from her head/back.
A lot of the characters are portrayed as fairies or gods or something in Umi no Yoru something (A VN style spinoff game).
Nekoashi and Nekojita are pon-like cats or cats or cat people depending on the game. Nekootome is a catgirl and Kyuuri(Cucumber) is a fox or cat with a cucumber on her head.
There are other catgirls and vampires and pons and robots and aliens.

A lot of humans have what look like odango or ears on their heads just because, too. Moochasu(Of the translated game) becomes like this too over the games.

Given the names of the characters in general, a lot of them could be described as moe anthropomorphisms, of the "my base item is on my head" or "my base item is a description of what I love more than anything" types. The rest are either "my name is what I am" or "My name is incomprehensible"

Just finished Wadanohara. I thought it was a really adorable game. The only part I didn't like was when Sal was revealed to be the true villain. I felt like that was just an edgy asspull. At least Mogeko Castle was extremely bizarre from the get-go. Also, "............." does not constitute as good dialogue, especially if it goes on for several lines. Yeesh.

There was a lot of text that went outside of the box. Also, the word "excellent" was mispelled as "exellent" in a couple of places. Sorry, I don't remember the exact places, but you will definitely see them when you're replaying the game. In chapter 7 (I think) there was an untranslated text - when Armstrong and Lasagna "start getting along", their status texts aren't translated. Other than that, the translation is really good and I think the battles are translated well enough (though the text goes a bit fast...). I think there will be more feedback if someone makes a new Towelket thread. Many don't know that Towelket 1 is translated, because they don't know about this Horror RPG games thread.

While I'm able to quickly find and edit text to fix the spelling errors, it's not as easy to know when text goes off the screen, so if you can think of where it happened, it would help majorly, as if it's something you investigate, it might be overlooked when I do play it(There were objects I didn't know could be investigated until I saw they had stuff tied to them when looking at them in RPG maker).

>In chapter 7 (I think) there was an untranslated text - when Armstrong and Lasagna "start getting along", their status texts aren't translated.

Could you give a bit more detail?(like where they were.) Did the game say their titles changed? Titles require me to hunt them down to change them, and so I have no idea where it is or when it will happen (if the game doesn't say) to keep an eye out for it. Although, it'll probably get fixed anyway if I remember to check their titles every so often around then.

I should also ask, when you say "status text", do you even mean title, like "loves a cow", etc., or something else?

>(though the text goes a bit fast...)
Yeah. I didn't mess around with anything but changing the text, so it's a thing with the game, though I should look at the original to make sure the speed really didn't change.

Ah Anon! I posted this a while ago, but I will do it again especially for you!
Do you remember that vgperson once posted a message on her tumblr that stated that she got a cease and desist regarding a game she was translating? Well, there are a lot of rumors/speculations that this game was indeed towelket. Vgperson even mentioned that this was a very demanded and popular game!
However, apparently the maker of towelket is known to be 'sensitive' to fanworks (Does this mean he cry on the toilet whenever he sees fanart?) and that he has a distaste of baka gaijins such as us who defile glorious nipponese games by playing them.
Anyways, the same once happened with Yume Nisshi! Once the creator discovered that there was a English version being made, he stopped all development out of anger!

So anyways, we have no concrete evidence, it's just heavy speculation.

The fact that she is translating games to begin with is already quite a feat.

If she is not interested in Towelket (I asked her as well but didn't get any reply, presumably because she had previously answered the question already many times), it is more than enough if she focuses on the games that she feels are interesting.

It's true that the anon translating Towelket is having 0 help and 0 impact on the Internet. His translation is nowhere to be found besides this thread and the wiki he put up is completely forgotten.

In fact, the only source of information for non-Japanese speakers for quite some time has been the tvtropes page.

The Towelket translation needs: 1) more promotion and 2) more hands working on it. Even the people around the thread have given a hand to the translator.

Also, well duh, if I recall right various game like towelket on rpgmaker are based on the Earthbound engine, so you're kinda forced to stick with it. Just look at Gray Garden, it's almost a "goddamn I can't remove the rpg feature" game.
Also saving the world from al- Ah, that's what you meant, I give you that now that I noticed. Although Earthbound felt different, it was an innocent quest, here it's just a disturbing scenario with no real dept.

I see your point.

For instance, taking a look at the case of (the absolutely beautiful, mind me) Dreaming Mary game that the anon in >>12048865 mentioned.

Despite being a complete newcomer to the RPG maker scene, the author has gathered quite a lot of following and the game has reached a certain quota of impact in the community. It has been around Tumblr, many people are mentioning it and some Let's plays are popping on Youtube already. In fact, even that anon has felt that it was compelling enough so as to report it here.

It is an example of how a bit of promotion in the right places (be it Tumblr or whatever, the important thing is not the social network but the fact that the project reaches the audience and prospers in many ways) is key to the motivation and success of a translator and a project.

What matters the most is the translator feeling confortable and supported, and reaching a wider audience which leads to potential help and support. This thread, Tumblr, Youtube, etc do not substract from each other, but add up to a better distribution and growth of interest in the community.

I didn't make the English wiki, and over time since I started, there were other people around. Mainly the guy who actually made the wiki, and a guy who was translating 3 before life stuff came up for him. Then a couple supporters who've come and gone, including someone who was translating another of the games but gave up but hangs around helping out with interpretations. The guy who did the images into English for me also hangs around, but usually doesn't do much.

It's not that I'm unwilling, so much as that 1 was the only one that kept me interested. (out of the ones that I tried, 1, 2, and 3). I'm not really an RPG person. If I were to do another, it'd be one of the spinoffs. I was planning on doing Nekoashi Otome-chan, but it'll most likely be Yoru no Umi. If I do another one, anyway. I need to cure my NEETdom before I can seriously think about anything else.

Regarding the author, they mentioned going in to a hospital for a few months due to schizophrenia on their blog a while back.

On a side note for the Mogeko fanatics: I have confirmed that Mogeko is working on an VX update for The Grey Garden, even going as far as to say that he discourages playing the game until the update is done.

And this information leads me to another thing: I have the original version of Mogeko Castle on my laptop, if some of you guys are curious how the original version looked before the grand VX update, I can consider uploading it or mailing it to you. Sorry Anon, but I don't know if Mogeko will update the story itself! What I do know is that Mogeko was very annoyed that RPG Maker 2000 pixelated the CG's and character portraits too much, so you can count on a big art update at least!
Also, I am pretty sure that the whole battle system will be revised/deleted. I recall Mogeko writing that he/she/it wasn't entirely sure that the battle system was a good idea in the first place, seeing how tedious and out of place it was.
And hey! Did you know Mogeko Castle originally had a boss battle with Moge-Ko just before the library? Also, Kurotsuno, Hanten and Met didn't even have portraits!

But based on my Mogeko stalking, these can be the possible updates:
-Less annoying battles/no battles at all. I am sure Mogeko will find another way around the boss battles, just like he did with Mogeko Castle.
-Even better CG art!
-More and updated character portraits.
-An expanded bonus room. You won't believe how limited the original Mogeko Castle bonus room was!
-Character sprites akin to Mogeko Castle.
-Etihw and Kcalb's past explained! This is only heavy speculation based on all the latest designs for the protagonists 'pre' versions, so we can only hope! http://www.illustbook.net/mogeko/201441061.html

Anyways, Mogeko wasn't really clear about WHAT exactly is going to change, so my points are based on what is posted on Mogeko's blog and the Mogeko Castle update. He DID say that all future Mogeko games are going to be in Mogeko's Castle format, so take that how you will!

Mogeko didn't say anything about Wadanohara, but I think it would be weird if he didn't update that one as well.
I think these are Mogeko's immediate plans:
-Redraw the Kurotsuno manga.
-Update The Gray Garden. Wadanohara as well?
-Work on Carnival Rythm. (I am almost sure that Urushimori is part of this world!)
-Work on End of Wonderland. (This world is the least established actually!)
-Mogeko Castle Gaiden.

My waifu is totally Heller btw.

This might be good. I'm playing through TGG right now I'm at the part after Yosafire & co. defeat Emalf, and arrive on the beach) and the boss battles are way too easy once you get to lvl. 25. Honestly I wonder what the point of a battle system was anyway--there are no boss battles in the first half and all of the enemies are piss easy. At least in Wadanohara it was handled somewhat well and justified, in my opinion.

Does Mogeko have a twitter or a pixiv? I understand if he/she wanted to keep them a secret since he/she would be flooded with an endless amount of questions being a game dev and all. lol.

We all have ideas that sound good at the beginning but turn out to be silly poop tier ideas at the end, Anon! But in all seriousness, I think Mogeko added the battle system because he/she wanted to have boss battles for story purposes, while also trying to make it as accessible as possible for all people. In the end Mogeko just wants to tell a story with his cool characters.

I know Mogeko HAD a pixiv, which he/she deleted sadly. I believe this was quite a silly reason actually; I remember his pixiv being filled to the brim with Yume Nikki and Ib fan art, I recall that he/she wanted to distance this from his/her own work to avoid having people point these out as inspiration for his/her own work; Mogeko wants his/her work to be as unique as possible. Alas, Mogeko IS a person who wants to distance his/her hobby as much as possible from all the other stuff in his/her life.

I just got finished playing The Gray Garden. What a disappointing game. I was all "That was it? Really?" at the very end. The first part was decent but the latter half sucked because the entire story was all bark and no bite, and a poor man's Mother/Earthbound to boot, with zero emotional impact. (Face it--if you didn't almost tear up at Wadanohara's bittersweet ending, you have no soul.)

Gameplay issues aside (which I already addressed ITT), I was also very disappointed that Wodahs and the other eyepatch angel turned out to be nothing but forgettable punching bags and the other three members of Etihw's & Kcalb's Elite 5 never made an appearance. I also wanted Reficul as the True Final Boss but I guess I can't have everything in this world. Sigh.

On the other hand, I'm looking forward to the remake. Hopefully the history of the setting will be explained and Eti's new Elite 5 (?) will make an appearance. That said, I don't understand why TGG seems to be more loved on tumblr rather than Wadanohara. I guess it's because TGG is more "feels-safe" or something? Whatever mang, that community has shit taste anyway.

I only played TSM and never touched TCM because of reasons.

I would like to request the translation of a very weird horror RPG game in a lot of sense.

It's title is "The Abaddon Princess Sleeping in the Rotten World" (腐界に眠る王女のアバドーン) by the company Sakuraprin (さくらぷりん), done with RPGMaker XP.

To begin with it's a comercial game, not free. It features a retro layout reminiscent of the NES classic "Sweet Home" with PC-98 era CGs (which can optionally be seen as regular CGs). It's a small and short game with a very .

What may put off potential translators is that it features lots of hentai, which includes a lot of yuri and yaoi (which can be turned off, by the way), gore and NTR thrown in all directions. The CG pack can be seen at sad panda and the whole game (which weighs around 300 MB) can be downloaded at sukebe nyaa.

Would any of you be interested in translating such project?

So anyone here actually translate rpg maker games? It seems relatively simple but I'm retarded when it comes to computers and I don't even know how one goes by replacing text.

I know that some games can have their script altered through hex code. But that's about it.

Open it up in the appropriate version of the RPG maker program and edit the events.

I use a program called dreamaker to pull the text out, but an old version thereof. There's supposedly a newer version out but I don't know what the deal with that is as info on it seems hazy and I can't find the author's website anymore. It takes all the text out of the game(events only) and puts it into a text file, and then allows you to reinsert it.

Yes.

I don't know how the version has changed, but in general, it only is able to take the text that happens as the result of an "event". Things like the items and skills and player names have to be edited within the RPG maker program itself, since they're part of its database.

In RPG maker 2000 (I can't speak for the others because I don't have them), there's a character limit on lines, so you have to be careful when you have that document full of pure text, that you don't make the lines too long or they'll be cut off. It's still much simpler than going in and editing every scene one by one.

It does also have the downside of being detached enough that you may not know exactly what's going on but that can still just be edited through rpg maker itself.

But the tool overall is much more useful for translating. You're still going to have to learn how to use whatever RPG maker though, if only enough to add extra text boxes when needed.(Although for all I know the newer dreamaker might be able to do that.)

One more note, I don't know what range of RPG makers the programs work on and even if they seem to work, they may do things like alter the maps in strange ways.

I'm liking this a lot so far. I'm into the entire rural village occult mystery setting too, so this is a real treat.

Also, I checked out the creator's website and found pic related. Looks like there's a serialized adaptation of it, but I can't into japanese so feel free to correct me. Other than that, there also seems to have been a contest revolving the game with a sweet looking book cover. Interesting stuff.

This is Kira from Memories of Fear. I will be translating 腐界に眠る王女のアバドーン / The Abaddon Princess Sleeping in the Rotten World in the future, after I finish with Peret em Heru for the Prisoner. I will be doing this translation outside of Memories of Fear on my own as I am a huge fan of games like Sweet Home and would love to make this game playable by all.

I will be translating the trial version first and then I will move on to the commercial full version. I will keep you guys updated here on our progress.

Let's make this thread more lively until some new games are released.

Peret em Heru is 100% translated and 70% edited already... that's great!!

Tosiaki is simultaneously working on the ecchi rpg "Avoid getting lost with Black-sempai in the black mansion" (which has great popularity despite being fairly short and new), "Healer's yell", which features little text but a very interesting gameplay premise where you are the healer of a group of warriors and "Evil Lord Girl Elly", which is Tosiaki's favourite RPG maker game.

Many great projects!

Notice the keys and the petals. Those are the bare minimum of items you need. Also, the penguin does mention something along the lines of 'look for the angel' If my memory is right, when you first pass the secret bedroom (the door right after fox's room, its hidden) you will see a fish bowl inside. Knock it over and a fish will fly out. Follow it back to your bedroom and the painting should be activated there

Thanks for informing us!

Since this is the first time that the thread reaches a bump limit (after almost two months, no less!), I believe that there is an increasing interest towards horror and original rpgmaker games.

Let's hope the best to the developers and translators that have provided so many interesting stories for us during this time!

I wouldn't like this thread to disappear without a single mention of Omori by Omocat. It was successfully funded on KickStarter and it looks like a really decent project!

I plan on doing it after the release of any new project.

Tosiaki has yet again revised his list of preference, pushing down "Healer's Yell" and giving more prominence to other newer and very interesting projects:
1- Not Getting Lost in the Dark in the Black Mansion with the Black Sempai (黒先輩と黒屋敷の闇に迷わない)
2- When it Rains, I Wanna Disappear off Somewhere (あめがふるとどこかへきえたくなるの。)
3- Re;member
4- Evil Lord Girl Elly (魔王少女エリ)

Peret em Heru, by Memories of Fear, is steadily advancing and seems to be aiming at a May release.

The same happens with Ghost School. The team Shangri-La have also mentioned aiming at a May release as well.

Moreover, Vgperson is the kind of translator who releases games without any previous announcement, so who knows.
