It's been a long, tumultuous ride. Recently there was a thread in /a/ that Dan Kim made asking for suggestions since he is in charge of the title card picture for the upcoming panel. The thread made me reminisce and nostalgia hard.

While I really do want those days back because of their simplicity, the fact that there were still people from the beginning that were still around really made me feel hopeful for the future.

Ironically, 4chan has probably done the most good to the development of my personal identity than any other thing I can think of. It was through hating everything, that I learned to be compassionate and open minded-- it's fucking weird.

People idolize over Haruhi Suzymiya because she acts like a guy. You ever wish you could have a girl as a friend, just to hang out with like one of the guys? A girl that would have the same interests as you, the same enthusiasm, the same keen observations and sense of adventure? How about a girlfriend that you could just hang out with, have fun with, and not have to listen to her whine and complain and leak. Haruhi Suzymiya is that ideal "hang out with" girl. She has fans because she has all the best traits of a guy friend you can hang out with, only she happens to be a girl. Understand that when people idolize over Haruhi Suzymiya, they idolize over the personality of a cool guy friend in a girl's body- an ideal friend/partner who has the best of both worlds, and would be nearly impossible to find.

The 2005 panel was so glorious because after being on the brink of death so many times, it was a sign that 4chan was here to stay. It was also surreal seeing all those epic memes being shouted in real life!

I recently wiped my HDD with my old folders on it. I was going through them and realized that most of the stuff in there wasn't worth saving. Nostalgia aside, I don't think things like "COCK GOES WHERE?" "VTEC JUST KICKED IN YO" or "ZING FUCK DONATE TO 4CHAN" measure up these days.

Modern menedom is so much more nuanced. You have to put more thought into your posts to make yourself seem detached and ironic. Too many "DDDs" in your spurdo post and it looks like you're trying too hard. It's an art now.

That's right, but irony is just an adaptation to what happened elsewhere. It came crashing in when the rest of the internet started using 4chan content. In other words, I don't think it's fair to credit the users of the site for going in this direction when it was just a natural reaction to something that they really didn't like.

I don't know how I feel about humor now versus back then, but the worst change by far is the serious atmosphere.

who fucking cares. ive been here since 2005 and it really doesnt mean shit. you havent missed anything besides people forcing memes and people latching onto them so they could fit in

raiding other sites was the dumbest shit though. hey guess what they'll come back to this one if you go over there to fuck around. god looking back all that shit was just so embarrassing. there were people who thought that being "anon" was some countercultural thing and tried to use /b/ to fuck with all the mean people who bullied them irl

everything back then was just obnoxious but at least people were fucking sjw like that whole anonymous thing became

What makes them think they won't be even worse this time around? Most of the people who go to this year's panel won't even have any interest in anything japanese 2D. It's just going to be a bunch of '18'-year-old /b/ legion dipshits, with some /v/a/co/mlp/s4s/pol/sp/ thrown in. It's going to be one of the most autistic gatherings anyone has ever seen. God damn I used to care about being funny and not saying anything dumb back then too because I was afraid I'd get permabanned. Also remember having snacks aim and just messaging him all the time till he blocked me.

Yeah, that is weird. Not sure why it does that, either, it's like the thing doesn't recognise where the line it's on begins or ends, but whatever. Obviously whatever's resulting in those confuses the fuck out of their OCR machines. So they have us read it.

It's easy to tell which one of the two is the important one... they just seem to be squishing the key word tighter than ever now.

How do you guys afford a pass?

I'm assuming most of you are NEET like me. I have to carefully budget my NEETbux and being otaku, my consumerfag portion of my budget is already maxed out.

Might as well charge $20,000 a year as far as I'm concerned. It takes me months to save up for a figure. I can't just be dropping double sawbuck whenever I feel like it.

Once again /jp/ loses out on site-wide policy.

Plus with the recent upsurge in moderation (and the often incomprehensible reasoning in what warrants a ban these days) it seems like a shaky investment at best.

I'm having SA flashbacks... never again, man. Never again.

Why would you want a Pass?

Maybe this is just my brain's way of coping, but I find that having to type a CAPTCHA means I'm more likely to put effort into my posts. Typing just "LOL UR A FAG" is rarely worth filling in a CAPTCHA for.
Also sometimes failing the CAPTCHA has saved me from making an embarrassing mistake, like a typo or forgetting to sage!

So yeah, you should have to pay real money for it if you want to waste my time reading your auto-posts.

And even then, you can still play it with those bitcoin monopoly money things instead of real money.

Not him, but I've been NEET for the last 6-7 months living off savings and EI after my seasonal job shut down. It's nice having free time and being able to do what you want, but it gets extremely boring after a while. My days are so simmilar, no amount of games, vns, music, anime, manga, and programming can change that. That can get frustrating for some people, so I can understand where he's coming from. Sometimes work isn't wage slavery, but a purpose. Having someone tell you that you need to work as a team and get shit done for the sake of others can be nice. Just don't dedicate your life to it.
