/jp/ is ultimately a Japanese video games/miscellaneous board with a dash of other otaku culture-related things anyways. I don't get why people got all angry with the MMO/Japan only games threads.

I make few friends on MMOs because I don't chat much. Nothing negative ever happens except once. I was talking with a cool guy I knew for a little while and he told me that I should use this certain weapon instead of the one I was using. I respectfully declined and said he's probably right but I prefer my current weapon and he suddenly got really pissy, like I never seen him before. He was a cool dude for a few weeks but then suddenly an extreme elitist. The weapon he wanted me to switch wasn't even primary weapons, just secondary weapons which doesn't affect much and I wanted my current one because it fit my playstyle. Dragon's Prophet just came out and it's supposedly decent. It's f2p and has a boob slider so I know this is /jp/'s kind of thing.

Wow-like with combat dragon pets and open PVP areas with housing and towns. It has "action combat" like every other korean mmo released in the past 4 years.

I had met one of the only two people in my life that I felt genuine happiness when talking to this year. He ended up leaving me because I didn't meet him after he got back from the hospital.

I became friends with a draconian person of my own accord. Many people didn't like her, but I tried my damnedest to stand up for the person I really knew. She never did consider me a friend.

Someone had sought me out as a friend, and I worked with him on many things. He drove me crazy over and over again. I realized soon enough he cared as little about me as the draconian person.

Just do whatever quests you can, especially if any from Koffie pop up, and any from your preferred class trainer as those can give you a lot of neat bonuses.

Progressing through the matter board is unneccesary but can be fun, for the most part just unlocking all the maps by completing them is your best bet at this point.

Its a pet you feed stuff to and give it stats.

The stats it gets are permanent additions to your stats. There is a limit, so don't just feed it everything. If you plan to stay Force, obviously you'd want mostly T-ATK increasing items and a little bit of DEX or whatever the patch translated that to. Some say the dex is useless but I dunno.

As for your techs, you can max all of them, just depends on how much you're willing to grind for the disk drops or buy them on the market. Most are pretty cheap but a few oddballs will probably cost over 50k

Your SP however.. Fire is a safe choice for high damage. Ice is generally regarded to be pretty crap. Lightning has a lot of utility, and is preferred in some cases. You wont be able to get all points in more than one tree, so avoid certain things like burn chance% increase and whatnot unless required by a skill further down. Cast time reduction for fire is amazing though.

I pretty much only play PSO2. I use it as my tool to practice Japanese and my fluency has improved leaps and bounds. I'm in some cool Japanese guild and they have regular skype group calls. It's always awesome being able to chitchat with them. A lot of the Japanese players like talking with a white dude I guess. Most of the guild members are in their 20s and its surprising how good their English is too sometimes.

The only reason the 4chan guilds on Mount Tyrannas were so successful was because they've both been in the game since the betas, so all the people who play MMOs seriously (and happen to browse /v/ or /a/) joined up. I started playing TERA because of the level up event and I recently picked up PSO2 as well and both are really lonely to me. Though in PSO2's case I can only find Japanese people and I'm not confident enough with my reading to hold a text conversation. Even if I did though I don't know how people make friends online. I made a Steam account two years ago and I've only made one friend from playing online in those two years. Though I'm not really sure you can call him a friend, since we never played together or even talked to each other since we met. But someone I knew in real life started playing on Steam early this year and he already has 10 friends he met online. I even talked quite a bit in one shooting game, and visited the same server for a long time (and I was pretty decent too) yet no one tried to befriend me. Even when I chat with someone through e-mail from /jp/ they're a new person trying too hard to fit in or a meme-spouting idiot or recently, one guy just stopped responding to me for some reason. I feel like making friends online is harder than in real life. Does anyone else have this problem?

Playing a healer class, pretty fun so far. Some endgame fights are downright difficult to heal for without just being "LOL THE ENEMY MERELY DOES A LOT OF DPS" or "YOU HAVE TO GRIND 7000 HOURS". They've definitely learned a lot from FFXI's successes and failures, as well as taking a few useful cues from WoW without just copying them like so many failed WoW clones

The best time to find people who are willing to become friends is to find out the "down time" in the game you play. In real life, the people who loiter around after work or school will be more open to the idea of "hanging out." And if you want to keep friends? That takes work and luck from both parties.

Voice chat has become a difficulty as being friends with some is just getting on voice chat, especially when it's just after you meet. Worse yet is when they're those kind of people who just don't want to type, but don't have much to say, or respond with one word (not that I don't) but don't bring up anything themselves. It would be ok if they were awkward but they're typically those types who don't care if they're on voice chat and do whatever they want regardless.
There's also those who invite you to voice chat but they're in channel with like 6 friends, who are always unaccepting. That's just cruel.
I luckily haven't had to deal with this since voice chat really got popular a couple years ago but I just say no mic nowadays.

I would recommend age of wushu, it has a non-traditional levelling system where you 'cultivate' skills instead of experience going towards the next level. I especially like the wuxia setting, it has all the factions you would expect: wudang, beggers, emei, shaolin etc. I only played for a few weeks because I easily get bored of mmo's but it's definitely worth checking out.

Do not play this game please do not. I have sunk $70 and a few months into this awful shit and I really wish I hadn't.

It's a very clever game, the combat is pretty fun and the leveling seems reasonable at first until you realize that your basic school sets and internals will never be able to compete with the hilariously expensive jianghu sets. The economy is fucking dead in the water so there's no way to earn that money through crafting, you just either have to pay for it with real dosh through paypal (we're talking like hundreds of dollars here for the good shit) or buy currency directly through snail which will also cost you an arm and a leg.

The open pvp system and the combat is lots of fun but it's absolutely ruined by how pay2win and broken the game is as a whole.

It's NOT pay2win. Who keeps implanting this into people's minds? There is absolutely nothing you can buy with money for advantage in battle that you can't buy with in-game credits. And the credit equivalent isn't even expensive. They even give away free golds in some events.

It's fun to play casually if you don't care about stats. Otherwise you will be filled with rage every time you lose a match and develop a stomach ulcer because you keep losing and getting fucked by things out of your control (such as shit teammates and RNG making you miss crucial game-winning shots).

You know the problem is, when people have enough money to make purchases via microtransactions in f2p games they really tend to do that, and then blame the game for being 'greedy'.

I have played shitton of free to play games and didn't spend a penny on them. Most of the 'buyable' elements in them are PvP-oriented, for which I don't care, or some sort of visual-upgrade. I tend to avoid f2p, where you have to actually pay for content (As in: unlocking dungeons, quests, side-stories for money) Because I have limited money and I see no reason to pay for something you can eventually get.

Well that said, people are different, some even may think one way and do totally opposite.

Premium shells and consumables can be bought with normal in game money as well as real money gold now. So the only things real money can do that you can't be playing normal is 100% crew training (which doesn't take long to grind up anyway) and the premium tanks. And for the most part they're hilariously bad, while having an enormous real money price tag on them. So the pay to win aspects have been significantly scaled down to the point where it's more or less just an option to speed up the grind than any real edge anymore.

Other than that, unless you enjoy camping you won't stick with it. The lower levels are fun as you can zip around and dogfight, but by the time you get a tank with real meat on it's bones you'll be set against absolute monsters and be at the bottom of the list in MM until you eventually get your own tier 10 shit. It's a pretty brutal cycle that simply runs again and again while throwing you just enough rare matches with you at the top to keep you coming back until the end.

On a side note, I really wish tier 3 lights and mediums had a separate opt in game style. A lot of those tanks have a lot of potential as brawlers, but very very rarely get the chance to shine in such a role. More immersive than popping IS7s in a panther and not as pointless as suicide scouting against heavies with a longer view range than you, a private server that offered this would be far and away better than the main game in my opinion.

I spent all day yesterday playing my brand new lv58 lancer. At the end of the day I just asked myself, "why am I playing this shitty WoW-clone of a game that is no fun at all?" All I did was mindless questing. All the skills on my lancer are boring, there is no technique or anything. Just cycling through hotkeys. The absence of targeting doesn't automatically make it an Action MMO™.

The whole time I was playing, I couldn't shake the feeling that I'd rather be playing Mabinogi. Superior combat, open world sandbox, not forced to wear certain gears at certain levels. Why bother? So I didn't bother.

I played TERA. FFXIV doesn't look as good as TERA but it's definitely not bad. Just a different style. It's supposed to get a graphics upgrade when the PS4 version is released. Also, FFXIV is more optimized than TERA.
