NYCC bkub Troubles Part 2

So a few days ago I was asking if it would be okay to ask bkub to draw me a Ciel as a commission. Thanks to you all, I was able to overcome my fear!

However, I am now struck with a new issue... bkub and I began sending messages back and forth and eventually we began to talk about the pictures I wanted, perhaps his prices went up but they are currently $50 for 3 pictures. I remember another poster saying he received his for $10 each, and I don't want to haggle with bkub because I respect him so much. I understand as an artist, the price given is what they value their art for, and I would feel so insulted if someone gave me a lower price. I wonder if these pictures he'll draw me will be full colored, or grayscale like his precious years...

It seems he's bumped his prices to about $16 per sketch; should I ask him for $40 instead? I fear it might push him to draw it not as hard as he would... Maybe I would get a small bonus for asking early?

Ten bucks for a picture from a guy internationally "famous" isn't much op. there are unknown, unskilled fucksacks charging you for twenty or more on furaffinity, DA or other crappy places

He's now even more famous, the higher price makes less people request art.

Also it could be that he need the money for the rent, artists live off this stuff. I had a friend that made a famous webcomic, and he had to work a partime since his comics didn't pay for all his spences.

He probably gives discounts in person or at conventions. Many artists do. They set time aside to make drawings.

It's normal to charge more if you ask them to draw something out of the blue, especially more than one drawing. They have busy lives and are probably up to their own things. You should be happy he will draw it at all, as many only draw at conventions and will deny personal requests other times.
This isn't even considering the fact that you are a foreigner and are probably talking in English. bkubs a cool guy and won't care, but many artists won't take commissions from foreigners that don't talk Japanese. Not due to racism, but to avoid confusion and any problems that might arise.

I say just pay the price he asked, it's not even that much. A $10 difference isn't worth it to haggle, especially when someone you respect is actually fulfilling your request. Just make sure to post the end-products here.

Actually, we were exchanging messages in Japanese, so that rules out the possibility. I messaged him asking if he would be attending comic con, and then asking what day he will be attending. I told him I'd really love to buy a picture, and he said that he'll be attending all days and he'll draw my picture in advance to exchange at the convention. I was actually expecting to just ask him directly at the convention, but I suppose he just wants to get orders out of the way, haha.

Maybe he is going to put more work into your pics because you asked for them ahead of time?

Or maybe last time too many people asked for drawings because they were so cheap? Who knows, it's still cool that he is drawing them.

Rodney, the guy who draws this Orin, will be there too along with some other artists.
Too bad most people only care about bkub. I will be going this year too and plan to get commissions from both artists.
