You can do this but the attraction of the early episodes is mostly the freshness of the cast. They don't really learn how to do a good variety show until the show changed names to AKBINGO. They got some extremely catchy songs, cute as hell members, are very funny, and management actually treats them right (only one member has graduated in the year and a half they've existed - and just because she wanted to play a different kind of music).

Most of the members are also incredibly elite. They've got like 20 ex-ballet dancers, and the rest were pianists, calligraphy practitioners, a kendo second dan (who strangely is very awkward, and ended up in a comedian spot), a former Momoiro Clover member (from before their first single though), and whatnot.

Check Nogizaka tte Doko out (it's in full in both dailymotion and vimeo). The first couple of episodes are quite boring, but it gets better and better quite soon.

As for the songs, check out the first three singles (Guruguru Courtain, Oide Shampoo and Hashire Bycicle), as well as some of the most catchy b-sides like Nogizaka no Uta, Aitakatta Kamoshirenai (which shares lyrics with AKB's Aitakatta), Guuzen wo Iiwake ni Shite, Ookami ni Kuchibue wo, Yubi Bouenkyou and 13 Nichi no Kinyobi.

Matsumura's hair is always a turn off for me, as much as I want to like her, I can't. Just watch Nogidoko/koko, and if you feel like you REALLY want to support one of those girls in particular, declare her as your oshi.

Inoue is at least the most vocal one about her aspirations. I think she's the only one in Nogizaka to have that quality, unlike AKB that has Yuuko, Mayuyu, Mariko-sama, Jurina and some others aspiring for the #1 spot in the open. So she might get 8fukujin status eventually, and if she does, it'll feel delicious.

The best singers aren't even the famous members and its not like singing talent was ever the main focus of AKB anyway. That's the reason you have so many of them; when you have a lot of people singing even if they are individually out of tune they average out to being alright.
