What?
Number of people following each member's Twitter account,
number of people following their Ameblo blogs,
number of comments each entry gets on average,
rate at which the monthly theater photosets sell out depending on the girl,
rate at which the slots are reserved at handshake events depending on the girl (there's even a thread on 2ch that constantly monitors the reservations, apparently Rena's line fills up faster than that of many top Senbatsu),
number of people lining up in front of each booth at handshake events...
And I could go on, because their advertizing agencies probably conduct similar inspections on a regular basis without telling anyone.
Not to mention that TGSK and Aki-P are both very attentive to popular reactions. TGSK pretty much admitted to reading AKB matomes, while Aki-P has his staff print 2ch threads for him so he can read them later.

If anything, Senbatsu elections are arguably the last thing they check when assessing the popularity of each member. Everyone knows that votes are open to a lot of manipulation, even the girls themselves know that.
I remember how at the 3rd Senbatsu election Yuko said as much during her acceptance speech, something like "I know that people could vote to this election as many times as they wanted, and it's not just one vote per person, but to us these votes are still a sign of everyone's love".

Am I the only one who's experiencing a sense of deja-vu watching the So Long dramas?
They feel like a repeat of Sakura Kara no Tegami. Not that it is a bad thing but:
>both series feature some heavy melodramatic elements
>both plots are inspired by the songs they're ostensibly meant to promote
>in both cases, the episodes are aired over a number of consecutive nights, rather than once a week

Anyhow, the melodrama feels less forced this time around, which makes the episodes much more pleasant to watch. Also, the overall acting has gotten more professional since two years ago.
